Default Cricket WC '07... in Miami?!?!

of the cities that put in a bid to host, miami is one of them.

july 2nd the cities will be picked. i am suprised that the bahamas did not put a bid in, thinking that soo many people go there for vacation, they'd be able to draw a large crowd.

I really hope some of the games are in the US. I'd certainly fly to miami to see some games (as i'll be in the US by that time.) I wouldn't be as optimistic as to suggest that it would raise the profile of Cricket in the US, but it would give the fans who are there something to be excited about...

There's a World Cup of Cricket?!? Wow, thats news to me. I had no idea. I read in that article that its in its 7th World Cup? Is this true? How often is it played? And I seriously wonder if this is why baseball is so quickly trying to plan a World Cup for March 2005, maybe they feel the threat of cricket as being more global than baseball??

I've personally never seen a full match of cricket, I don't even fully understand how its played. Its quite odd that Miami got mentioned in that story. I don't mean to offend any cricket fans, but there's no cricket grounds here and most people here in Miami have never heard of cricket.

Cricket WC runs every 4 years. Started in 1975. Australia have won the last 2.

WC '07 is to be hosted by the West Indies, and given the significant West Indian population in Florida, they are making a bid.

There is no cricket in Miami?

Palm Beach, Hollywood etc. seem to be represented. How far are these places from Miami?

there are plans to build a cricket specific stadium in lauderhill, which i presume is in the miami area since its connected to the Miami WC'07 bid.

Thanks for the info. But a significant West Indian population in Florida? Wow, thats also news to me. And I've been living in South Florida for 24 years, and always been traveling through the state. What exactly do you mean by West Indian? That term is often misused. If you mean the broad scope of any non-white person from any Carribean nation, then I would only limit that to some small regions in the greater Miami area. If you specifically mean Indian/Paskistani background, then I would definitely have to diagree with you. And nonetheless, almost all Carri************s here absolutely love baseball (Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans). Its their sport. Personally, I dislike baseball.

For the other posts: NONE of those cities and communites that you mentioned or listed in the SFCL website are even in the same county as Miami. So that goes to show how far off they are from Miami and Greater Miami. The closest city that was on that list is Pembroke (not Pembrook) Pines, but still in the next county up north (Broward County). Lauderhill is still more further north, west of Fort Lauderdale.

I guess the reason why Miami is listed in that article is because of the same reasons that the terminated Miami Fusion FC of Major League Soccer (MLS) was called "Miami". The team played in north Fort Lauderdale, way outside of Miami, but you can't name a team "Fort Lauderdale xxxxxxx " because thats a joke, so you stamp the name "Miami" on it so the rest of the country will buy into it. Obviously, they forgot one key factor, nobody from the city of Miami bought into it, its quite a long drive from both cities. My point is, sometimes when there's a large-scale sporting event in Fort Lauderdale or in any other city in Broward county, the organizers like to stamp "Miami" into their plans because they know an international city sounds better than a small city.
