Default Paulo Futre or Deco?

Not surprisingly, Deco is sure to leave Porto for a "bigger" club if he wins the Uefa Champions League. So after he leaves one must ask, who is considered the best player Porto ever had, Futre or Deco? Or maybe Teofilo Cubillas?

Futre played less then one year for Porto, Cubillas was outstanding for Porto but he played in the day where Porto was second fiddle to Benfica, if Deco wins the CL he can say that his the best, but if not the 87 team had players like Madjer, Joao Pinto, etc.

Are we talking about the same Poulo Futre? I think you got YOUR Futre wrong because stats show that Futre played for Porto three years, including the in the team that won the Champions League in 1987:

Anno Squadra serie pres. goals
------- ----------------- ----- ----- -----
1983-84 Sp. Lisboa A 21 3
1984-85 Porto A 30 6
1985-86 Porto A 26 7
1986-87 Porto A 25 12
1987-88 Atl. Madrid A 35 8
1988-89 Atl. Madrid A 28 5
1989-90 Atl. Madrid A 26 10
1990-91 Atl. Madrid A 26 3
1991-92 Atl. Madrid A 31 6
1992-93 Atl. Madrid A 16 6
Febb.93 Benfica A 11 3
1993-94 Marseille A 8 2
Nov. 93 Reggiana A 1 1
1994-95 Reggiana A 12 4
1995-96 Milan A

Then again you're a Benfica fan bahh

Here's a little history on Futre in futbol: (in Spanish)

best years for Paulo Futre were with At. Madrid, Porto had a lot of starters at the time, including Fernando Gomes with 5 titles the best goalscorer

from the CL final in 87 the player to remember was Madjer,
you ask any Porto Player Madjer or Futre they will say Madjer, he scored a back heal goal against Bayern of Muchen in the final

I only remember Paulo Futre towards the end of his career, and I remember him playing for Benfica and helping Benfica win the 1993 Taca de Portugal. I have seen footage of Futre and his early days at Sporting and later on with porto, and from what I saw, he was a better player than deco. I would choose Futre over deco.

But who started the play in that Madjer goal? Anyways, he was there 3 years , won 2 leagues and 2 portuguese super cups and of course the Champions League and all of this before the age of 21 (simply amazing). Not many players do that in 7 years in a club. That is why Futre went on to a bigger team like Atletico Madrid. I'm sure if Madjer was better, he would've gone to a bigger team also, but he didn't, that should say alot. With that said, Paulo Futre is undoubtedly one of the best players Porto ever had in their history. This goes back to my initial question, now that Deco has conquered or will conquer everything that Paulo Futre has, who will go down in history as a better Porto player, Deco or Futre?

As far as Fernando Gomes goes, i'm sure Antonio Oliveira was alot better than Gomes, just look: http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/portpoy.html
Anyways, neither Gomes nor Oliveira have won something as big as the Champions League.

So the questions remains, who will go down in history as Porto's best player in history:

PAULO FUTRE or DECO

my list of Porto players ever

1. Madjer
2. Hernani
3. Joao Pinto
4. Deco
5. **********
6. Cubillas
7. Fernando Gomes
8. Aloisio
9. Pavao died on the field at 26 he was the captain
10. Jorge Costa

I would love to see Deco back in the blue and white next season but I can understand if he chooses to go elsewhere. The system Mourinho uses does tend to tighten up the game he likes to use, I would admit. With all that, though, Deco manages to show what he's capable of, here and there. He must be thinking he needs a system that would "set him free" and do what he wants on the pitch.

Futre: Much respect for him. Just ask Atletico Madrid fans.

I would also like to see Maniche and Derlei on the All-time list someday, especially Maniche. But we'll see...
