The last year Kyrgyz Major League-2008 champion "Dordoi-Dynamo" and runners-up "Abdysh-Ata are the favourite clubs in this year too.

But, the clubs of "Alai", "Jashtyk-Ak altyn" and "Sher" may also compete properly with these top two teams.

    Kyrgyzstan has joined Vision Asia

FFKR committed to Vision Asia goals

BISHKEK: The Vision Asia assessment visit to Kyrgyzstan to initiate the Vision Kyrgyzstan Project concluded successfully in Bishkek last week with local officials committed to developing football in the country.

A sound base already exists for football in Kyrgyzstan with a well structured administration, under new leadership elected in December 2008. There is a good competitions structure at both National and Provincial level and 18 coaches are employed on a full-time basis under the AFC AID27 programme.

The priorities for football development in Kyrgyzstan are to strengthen the financial resources of the Football Federation of Kyrgyz Republic (FFKR), increase the number of elite clubs with good facilities and structure and expand the grassroots and youth programmes and competitions.

Another goal is to ensure talented players have a comprehensive player development pathway from a young age.

The AFC Vision Kyrgyzstan team is confident that rapid progress can be achieved for football in Kyrgyzstan based on the commitment of the football stakeholders, the support of the Sports and Education authorities and the pre-existing solid base for football.

Kyrgyzstan has already qualified for the finals of the AFC Challenge Cup 2009 and with integrated and sustained development programmes can quickly move up the football rankings in Asia.

I hope it will help for development of Kyrgyz Football...

    Dordoi hit rough patch

It’s time for some serious introspection for Dordoi-Dynamo.

The Kyrgyzstan champions, who lost one and drew another league match at home, will be desperate to get their act together before their AFC President’s Cup campaign kicks off on June 10.

The two-time continental winners lost in the pre-quarterfinals of the Kyrgyzstan Cup to second division club Jivoe Pivo on penalties 4-3 and were held 1-1 in the eighth round of the domestic league by leaders Alai.

Sergey Dvoryankov’s charges were put ahead by Russian import Maksim Kretov from the spot eight minutes before the hour but former international midfielder Dmitry Krohmal restored parity for Pivo also from a penalty. Both the teams were locked 1-1 at the end of regulation and extra-time.

Dordoi-Dynamo were trailing due to an Azat Baimatov strike for Alai but Ghanian Daniel Tagoe scored the equaliser for them in the stoppage time.

They are now second in the nine-team standings with 16 points, three less than Alai but Dordoi have played two games less.

2008 AFC President’s Cup runners-up Dordoi will host the Group C games of this year’s edition. Other teams in the pool are Myanmar’s Kanbawza, Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Crown FC and Bhutanese outfit Yeedzin FC.

    STANDINGS: 1. Alai 19 points (8 games), 2. Dordoi-Dynamo 16 (6), 3. Abdysh-Ata 14 (6), 4. Jashtyk-Ak-Altyn 14 (8), 5. Sher 9 (6).

The national team got their 1st win since May 2008 today, defeating Sri Lanka 4-1 in India.

With the 2010 AFC Challenge Cup just around the corner, it seems that the national coach Anarbek Ormonbekov is moulding a decent young team together.

Do you think they could win the Challenge Cup against ther likes of Myanmar, North Korea, Tajikistan and India and claim an Asian Cup spot?

It could depend on what team North Korea sends.

But i guess Kyrgyzstan are setting from scratch again, for Nehru Cup they sent a young squad, so i guess 2010 will be more of a team building exercise.

But what is the long term aim for the national team?

I don't think that north korea will send second team, because challenge cup is only chance to qualify for asian cup, and believe me they won't miss it.

definitely, to build up good team who can play well against top asian teams (at least) and show up good games in next asian and world cup qualifications.

Don't forget Challenge Cup in 2008, North Korea sent a second string team, I'm really not sure if they will send a full strength team to this one.

I'm not sure if Asian Cup is a priorty for them really, Last time out for 2007 they didn't even bother to enter and their record is dismal, even to the point of the thought that they just don't want to be part of it.

I think for Kyrgyzstan, this could be their for the taking assuming you get a decent draw.

    Looking at it more closely, you have the following;

    India - automatic qualifier
    Korea DPR - automatic qualifier
    Tajikistan - automatic qualifier
    Myanmar - winner Group A
    Turkmenistan - winner Group B
    Kyrgyzstan - winner Group C
Sri Lanka - winner Group D
    Bangladesh - best runner-up

Of course, no matter what team Korea send, they will be there or there abouts. Then you have India, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan who are decent teams at this level.

Biggest surprise could be Myanmar, but they kind of make their own story by having indisipline and get knocked out that way.

Best draw you could do with is having Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (two teams i think you could beat whilst forming a young team together) and then a stronger nation like India just to see where your current crop of players are.

From there, anything could happen in the knockout stages.

By the way, have you heard any news of where Challenge Cup will be held?

yeah, I wish your predictions will come true.

anyway, let's see what will bring up the draw. It will matter how the teams will be divided into two groups.

No any news about the place and venue for challenge cup games so far.

KUALA LUMPUR: Sri Lanka will host the 2010 AFC Challenge Cup in February next year.
The tournament, featuring the leading second-tier teams in Asia, will be held from February 3-14. The stadium venues will be decided at a later date.

India hosted the last tournament in 2008 with the hosts winning and qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup 2011 finals. A similar incentive awaits the 2010 winners.

KANT: An injury-time goal by Abdysh-Ata’s Anton Zemlianuhin saw the Kyrgyzstan Cup holders beating defending league champions Dordoi-Dynamo 1-0 in the sixth round of the ‘Final Four’ on Monday.

The result meant that Abdysh and Dordoi are now locked on 11 points each, necessitating another play-off between the two to decided the ‘Final Four’ teams. The date of the play-off has not been decided yet.

In another match, Jashtyk-Ak-Altyn beat Alai Osh 2-1 to finish third in the league.

    Final Standings after ‘Final Four’: 1-2. Dordoi-Dynamo 11, 1-2. Abdysh-Ata 11, 3. Jashtyk-Ak-Altyn 5, 4. Alai 5.
