Hey NYC! Where to stay last minute?
Hi folks,
I've on a whim decided to go to NY this weekend - Saturday thru Monday. I have friends who will put me up, but I'm not entirely sure I want to be stumbling into their homes at all hours.
Any suggestions for nice places maybe to try to stay in the east village or close to brooklyn or in brooklyn?
thanks!

Couple of questions:
1. How much are you willing to pay?
2. When you say Brooklyn, which neighborhood? It makes a difference if you're hanging out in say, Greenpoint/Williamsburg as opposed to Park Slope or Prospect Heights or wherever.
One option you can consider is a sublet/short term stay in an apartment through Craigslist: http://newyork.craigslist.org/sub/
Though as always with Craigs, caveat emptor and beware of deals that sound too good to be true.

Re: Hey NYC! Where to stay last minute?
1. Not sure how much. I'm open. I'd rather not spend 400/night, though.
2. No idea. Greenpoint/Williamsburg probably. I'd prefer Manhattan to be honest.

I'd consider St Mark's Hotel: http://www.stmarkshotel.net/
You're basically a brick's throw away from all the East Village drinking holes, plus reasonable walking distance to bars and music venues on the Lower East Side. You can get into Williamsburg easily if you walk up to the L train on 14th St, or to other points in Brooklyn by a bunch of other subway stops within walking distance.

Plus there's a pizza joint on the street level.

And the St Marks Ale house downstairs has much beer. 24 taps and there is really decent bar food. You are also 5 blocks from Nevada Smiths
Be aware that the building across the street just burned down so the street may be a mess.

The Thompson is the one that has the roof top bar, no? Think I've been there before.

People who live in NYC don't have to stay in hotels. Therefore they are less likely to have formed an opinion about them.
