mjames1229 in the "Top 3" thread gave me an idea. Let's post whatever indoor soccer photos we have here and maybe they'll start to matriculate out on the web a little more. I have a ton but I'll start with a few good ones from the old MISL. 1979-80 Wichita Wings at Buffalo Stallions 1983-84 Wichita at St.Louis 1979-80 MISL All Stars
1979-80 NY Arrows vs Houston Summit 1980-81 Steve Zungul NY Arrows 1980-81 San Francisco Fog vs Buffalo Stallions
Those are some nice photos. Now I will have to dig through my "archives" and hit the scanner. I have two favorites (although the quality is not top notch). One favorite is Karl-Heinz Granitza scoring on a penalty kick, with Wave GK Tony Pierce diving left and the ball entering the upper 90. The other is Wave D Lee Rogers scoring a goal against Dayton in double OT. the ball is behind the keeper and Rogers is still in midair.
Thanks for sharing the pics! Brings back some great memories of some players i had forgotten like Iubo Petrovic, Dragan Nikitivic, and Freddie Grgurev....Oh how i still long to have one of those red and blue New York Arrows Jerseys....Keep posting pics! This is a GREAT thread!!!
Postgame, end of 1981 MISL finals- Zungul and Ebert 1980-81 Steamers- Slobo hits the deck. 1982-83 Steamers vs Arrows
In December 1978, Pete Rose, part owner of the Cincinnati Kids, kicked out the first ball. 1983-84 Kansas City Comets (Gino Shiraldi) at Cleveland Force 1979-80 Hartford Hellions vs Houston Summit
Here you go, Zinsy! THE porn star of 1980s American soccer! Here's Kai Haaskivi as a member of the Central Divison all stars in the first ever MISL All Star Game in February 1980. 1983 MISL All Star Game in Kansas City. Stan Stemenkovic of the Eastern Divsion scores one of the most awesome goals ever with a magical display of dribbling followed by a backheel shot past Slobo. Kim Roentved can only look on.
Looking at that classic picture from the 1983 All Star Game, it dawned on me how two of the three players in the photo have passed away... RIP Stan and Slobo...
yes.....two of the greatest players to ever play the game...i spent my youth being entertained and mystified by their skills... to this day i still i watch that Stamenkovic goal whenever i think of it....and i remember seeing another goal of his that i'll never forget....The Blast were in town and i remember Paul Kitson (another great who has passed on) was steaming down the boards into the corner and hit a hard pass into the box...Stan chugged toward it and looked like he was going to let it go between his legs to another player coming through...but all of the sudden he flicked a back-heel past a stunned Slobo.....that goal was amazing.....deep down, even the jeering and booing thousands in attendance at the old St. Louis Arena knew that was a special goal scored by a special player..... i saw almost every game the Steamers ever played so my memory is blurry, but i think that was the same game that goalkeeper Keith Van Eron (or was it Scott Manning?) scored on a long throw into an empty net....i think that was the first goal i saw a keeper score while attending a game in person....I still love the one that Jan Olessen scored for the Wings against the Steamers in a game in Wichita that was televised....He had the ball and looked up and saw no Wings to pass to....so he takes off dribbling and goes around a few Steamers who didn't really give him much of a challenge (i guess they thought he'd pass off at some point) before blasting a worm-burner between Slobo's legs... think i'll go watch that game right now!
