Default Silly Season- Winter transfers

Perhaps it's time for a new thread.

Nicolai Boilesen to Ajax Amsterdam

Brøndby are losing Denmarks perhaps biggest defensive talent to Ajax Amsterdam. The 17-yo left-footed defender/centre back Nicolai Boilesen, who is said to be Brøndbys biggest defensive talent since Daniel Agger and also a young player with the exact same kind of qualities as Agger, would not agree to extend his youth contract with Brøndby and is leaving the club on a free transfer this winter, to join fellow Dane Christian Eriksen at Jong Ajax (the Ajax reserves) on a 3½-year contract. Though the young Danish U19 NT Star is leaving on a free transfer, Brøndby are entitled to a youth-compensation fee of around €500k.

The Scandinavian transfer market 2010

Ther is not all that much $$ out there to be spend by the clubs this winter. In Norway it seems that several clubs are in deep financial trouble, I guess mainly because of all the $$ they have invested in new bigger and better stadiums the past several years..... In Denmark this past seasons turnovers have revealed huge deficits, not so much because of the football business, but because danish clubs also invest in other sports and unrelated business, which have been struck by the financial crisis. It's the same pattern all over Europe, so the clubs cant really expect to cover their losses by selling players.

The trend in Denmark is to shrink the size of the squads from perhaps 30-36 players to a smaller squad of 22-26 players, so that it is the more average squad players who are now going to lose their jobs, while the clubs try to keep their regular starters and younger talents. If they need to make bigger cuts, it's mainly the more expensive foreign players who are axed, especially if their contracts are about to expire.

Rander FC are surprisingly heading for relegation, which financially of course will be a double disaster for the club. So they are already trying to cut their losses in mid season, instead of just waiting and hoping for better results.

They have so far made a deal with Tobias Grahn, releasing him from his contract straight away. Allan K. Jepsen is surely not going to get his contract extended, while I'm also sure both José Júnior and Esben Hansen are returning to FCK and OB Odense this winter, when the loan deals expire...

Ther will surely be more players leaving the club, while they have only signed two players, both on free transfers. The Armenian striker Yura Movsisyan who join the club from Real Salt Lake and the SønderjyskE centre back Anders Egholm, who has just signed a 3-year deal with Randers.

FC Midtjylland are also in a bit of trouble, and trying to get rid of Arek Onyszko and Danny Califf, who have been told that they need to find new clubs. FCM have also agreed to release the Croatian defender Filip Marcic from his contract, while the Danish striker Poul Hübertz is not going to get his short-term contract extended.

FC København in financial trouble

The latest financial reports from FCK has revealed a huge US$ 50 million deficit (yes, $50 million !!) this season... Money lost on unrelated business, so the club now is in big financial trouble and are going to rely more on developing own youth players in the future, rather than buying their way to success. The club will also be forced to make major changes to their ways of doing business in the future and perhaps they need to sell a player or two as well..

They are not going bankrupt though, because they have been promised a helping hand of no less than $100 million (by their Bank and other big investors), to cover their losses and an expected future loss the next seasons to come. In other words, they have been on the very brink of bankruptcy and would not have been able to survive without the $100 million they are getting now. So it's not money they can use on new players.

Can someone tell me more about Boilesen?
If he is as talented as Christian Eriksen is then I am very happy he will go to Ajax!

Thanks for the interesting perspective Ceres.

Curious to see how the Randers situation play out. As you mentioned, Yura Movsisyan joins them from Real Salt Lake. I'm not sure why he signed with that club other than for money and I guess Euro experience.

Otherwise, Yura played well enough to get a new contract from RSL or could have tried to get on with another MLS or more financially stable, smaller 1st division Euro league club rather than Randers.

What on earth happened to FCK? Was it real estate related?

Danish Superliga clubs especially seem to be developing some top class centre backs at the moment and he is regardet to be the biggets Danish centre back talent besides Simon Kjær and with the same kind of qualities as Daniel Agger, so yes, I would say that he is regarded to be as talent as a Christian Eriksen.

Only to a lesser extend... it was especially a huge loss on fitness.dk, some sort of holiday resort project in Italy that turned out horrible bad, FCK handball and finally they had a deficit on their transfer budget of DKK 68 million (around US$ 13.6 million).... all-in-all a US$ 50 million loss.

To be fair, Randers did finish 5th last season and I doubt anybody seriously thought Randers would be in this situation when this season started.

Rasmus Lindgren to Brøndby IF ?

According to danish news media, Brøndby IF especially seem to have their eye on getting the 25-yo Swedish defensive midfielder Rasmus Lindgren who is keen on leaving Dutch Eredivisie side Ajax Amsterdam this winter. Apparently Brøndby have made a €2.5 million bid on the Swedish international.
