Odds to win World Cup
Just came across these today. They are listed by pot and assume that CONCACAF is grouped with AFC. USA is 100 to 1 and has the best odds in their pot. South Africa is obviously the inferior team in Pot A. There are two teams in Pot B (Netherlands and Portugal) that are clearly better than the other six. From Pot D, the Ivory Coast is the one team I'd hate to be paired with although Chile and Ghana would be no picnic either.
Pot A (seeded teams)
Brazil 4.9 to 1
Spain 4.9
England 7.4
Argentina 10
Germany 13
Italy 16
France 18
South Africa 109
Pot B (UEFA)
Netherlands 17 to 1
Portugal 20
Serbia 84
Greece 139
Denmark 140
Slovenia 199
Switzerland 270
Slovakia 330
Pot C (CONCACAF + AFC)
USA 100 to 1
Australia 110
Mexico 139
Japan 379
South Korea 509
Honduras 790
New Zealand 920
North Korea 1000
Pot D (CAF + CONMEBOL)
Ivory Coast 27 to 1
Chile 52
Ghana 76
Paraguay 89
Cameroon 105
Nigeria 125
Uruguay 129
Algeria 400

If you want proof of how corrupt FIFA is (as if you need it), have this odds list in your hand during the draw on Dec. 4th.

Re: Odds to win World Cup
So if I read that right, the US is the 15th favorite to win the whole thing.
Apparently the bookies like our chances a whole lot better than a whole bunch of posters here at BS Nation.

What? You say they won't put two teams from the same non-UEFA confederation in the same group? Aw shucks!

Try this:
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/...cup/win-market
Notice that varying opinions about the USA, put them a couple of places down from where they would be if they were ranked by the mean or median odds rather than the longest available odds.

Re: Odds to win World Cup
Brazil look like good value at almost 5-1.

Portugal is overrated... They may be excellent in midfield, but have no top-class forwards and are not that solid in defense. Ther is good reason why they only finished 2nd in their WC qualifying group behind Denmark that even beat them in Portugal... Which also lead me to say that Denmark on the other hand is underrated according to these odds .... What has Greece shown of lately that they should have better odds ?... and seriously even Australia have better odds than Denmark, though they no doubt are going to get a tougher draw, being in pot C. ...

Re: Odds to win World Cup
Portugal's odds are shorter than most teams because they have a lot of talent, and if they ever figure out to play up to their potential they will be one of the best teams in the world.
That said, 20:1 odds are still pretty long. That's a bit more than one world cup per century.

Yep a talneted team can always start playing well, whereas a team without the right talent needs a miracle to win the World Cup.That's why Argentina are still rated as about the 4th/5th favourites by the bookies despite being very unimpressive in qualification
