Default Which Team Got Screwed Worse by FIFA and/or Referees?

On September 3, 2005, Uzbekistan hosted and beat Bahrain 1:0 in the first leg between the wto AFC third place teams. Uzbekistan complained about something and FIFA had the game be replayed. The replay was 1:1 and after a scoreless game in Bahrain, Bahrain advanced on away goals and went on to lose a two series to Trinidad and Tobago. http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?...v=st&type=lgns is an article about that. So who got screwed worse, Uzbekistan in 2005 or Ireland yesterday?

Ireland got screwed more. It was Uzbekistan's own fault for requesting the investigation into the game which led to the game being replayed.

Brazil 1978
Algeria 1982
England 1986
Italy 2002
Spain 2002
Some may even say Australia 2006

They all got screwed worse by FIFA than Ireland 2009.

http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_b...-and-more.html says Ireland wants the game replayed and "The Irish have also pointed out that in 2005 FIFA invalidated a World Cup qualifying result between Uzbekistan and Bahrain because of a critical referee error."

Portugal 1966.

They moved the Semi Final from Liverpool where Portugal was to London a day before the game and Portugal had to spend their prep day on a train.

The Uzbek situation was due to an incorrect call and they got their replay anyway, which roceeded to bite them in the ass. Ireland was the victim of a "missed call" which happens all the time, like had happen earlier in thart very same match TO the French. Neither one got screwed...

The Uzbeks didn't want a replay they wanted a 3-0 score. They should of known that there was no way FIFA would give them an extra 2 goals for a bad ref decision. But since they pressured for action FIFA gave them the only one they could.

I agree FIFA shouldn't of done it but the Uzbeks played a big part in that situation.

Poland was screwed in 72 that was the worse offense by far. I wasnt born yet but the field was unplayable and Gerd Mueller scored on off side to go to final. The final should of been Poland vs Holland. The yesterday was the second worst just ahead of spain in 2002. England was not screwed in 86 bc in that same game Maradona scored the best goal ever.

It was in 1974 and Müller was not offside.
But I do wish Holland and Poland had played each other during that tournament.

You cannot assume that Maradona would have scored the second goal if the handball goal had not been allowed. Tactics change after goals are scored, not to mention that the English players were probably still upset since "the best goal ever" happened only five minutes later.

How did they get screwed by FIFA? You mean like paying the referee?

Especially in the Algeria case FIFA couldn't do anything (well they did afterwards with introducing simultaneous kick off times in last group matches). And Algeria wasn't exactly cheated, Austria and Germany just did the thing to ensure their own progression. That's not nice or good to watch (it is called "shame of Gijon" in Germany for a reason), but why should they take a risk? Luckily it is not possible any more.
If you read my posts you will see I am always against groups with an uneven number of teams, to prevent such a thing to happen again.

The field was unplayable for both teams and you were already proving wrong with the "offside" goal. Also, a draw would have been enough for Germany anyway. So *meep* no screwing of Poland whatsoever, just a bad loser on your side.

Additionally a great goal doesn't justify an illegal goal (England was really unlucky in 1986).
