Default International Football Terms

Hi all,

Could any of you tell me any international football terms relating to roles or positions that you are aware of.

The kind of thing I mean are terms like:

Regista - Italian word for director or playmaker generally

Libero- Sweeper

Media Punta - Attacking midfielder

Enganche - Argentina term for creative midfielder which I believe literally translates as hook.

If you could give me the term, what country or language it comes from and what it means then that would be appreciated.

I think is not exactly an Argentine term, I believe all Spanish-speaking countries use this.

You also have volante which is a midfield player.

A barredor is also a sweeper in Spanish.

A carrilero is a term Andres Cantor used to use for a winger.

An arquero is a keeper.

Another term for midfielder is mediocampista.

Atacante and delantero are also words used to describe forwards.

One last one for a keeper is portero.

Doble pivote is also used to describe a formation that uses 2 CM's like a 4-4-2.

Right, and it literally means "3/4er"--i.e., someone who naturally plays 3/4ths up the pitch / in the hole between the opposition's defenders and midfielders.
