Default Crew ask GBS to take a pay cut...

In a meeting this week, the Crew told the 2008 MLS most valuable player that, in order to remain with the club, he would have to agree to cut his salary by at least 50 percent, the Insider has learned. The decision was apparently made by upper management.

I am awaiting comment from the Crew.

Schelotto, who is 36, has guided Columbus to consecutive Supporters' Shields and last year's MLS Cup. His base salary this season was $650,000 ($775,000 guaranteed), according to players' union records. In 2008, he earned $250,000 ($375,000).
My thoughts: We need to make room for a new DP striker

I'd be willing to bet that if they went to Guille and told him that this was being done so that they could bring Palermo in, he'd have no problem taking the pay cut. Now if they did this just to save cost, Guille should tell them to shove it up their ass.

P.S. This could also be a sign of a possible move by God, err Brad Friedel back to the Crew.

Interesting...

Other sources said that earlier this season, Schelotto did not respond to two offers to re-sign him to a one-year deal at his current salary despite the salary-cap constraints such a contract would place on the Crew.

Since Shawn confirmed this Rumor can the Mods change it to news.
I just not believe that they are asking 227,500 for him to come back.
