Sad
This marked the third year in a row and fifth time in the last eight years that the lowest MLS playoff attendance was for a New England home game.
Basically, attendance has been in the toilet ever since SN took over and made us half way decent. I mean, I know we've been boring to watch most of those years but...

LOL...I'm laughing because you're accusing SN's tactics for the low attendance numbers.
Let me say this...
Since 1996..the Kraft Organization has pretty much marketed this team like it was some Disney on Ice and/or a Chick flick that you could bring the entire family to. That year, 1996, the Kraft Sporting Machine pretty much alienated almost 40k fans who showed up to the final game of the season. They missed the boat on an amazing opportunity to truly create something special with this franchise...
Don't go blaming SN for lack of owner involvement, interest and general apathy...!!

So you think SN has helped the attendance problem? Good luck arguing that one?

I don't believe you are not saying that he didn't not help us much? Best of wishes in that debate?

Minuteman, I haven't been to many games lately because I live in upstate NY. If I had a car and it were less than a 4 hour drive one way, I'd go more often.
Dan, I'm not accusing SN's tactics of being responsible (although I can see how my phrasing led you to interpret it that way), though they don't help. After all, it's not like we ever played scintillating soccer before he arrived. Under SN, at least the boring soccer has got good results. What I'm actually trying to point out is the irony that attendance has plummeted ever since we've actually been good.

Re: Sad
I think the move to Gillette has had more of an effect than wins or losses or style of play (and they played a quite offensive, attacking style for a number of years until the past two). Particularly, the game day experience was better in the old stadium (though the amenities are better in Gillette). It's the little things that have eaten away at the experience, like the security issues with the supporters (getting better, I think), opening only half the bowl, not opening the gates on the west side, not taking care of the grass, leaving the stands out of the south end during concert season, leaving football lines when it would have been easy to remove them (doing better here). The soccer is a ton better than what we saw in the old Foxboro stadium, but the feel, buzz, and excitement of being at the event have been more or less sterilized.
Now, I know they've addressed some of these things already, and hopefully will continue down the path, but they've chased away a lot of fans and potential fans trying to save a few bucks and they'll have to work extra hard to convince those same people to come try the meatloaf again. It'll be better this time. They really need to make an investment of significance to do this, in game-day presentation, on-field product, public committment, and then market the hell out of the "New and Improved" Revolution, now with 50% more for the same price, etc...
For reference here are the attendance averages for the the past 14 years:
1996: 19,025
1997: 21,423
1998: 19,188
1999: 16,735
2000: 15,463
2001: 15,654
2002: 16,927
2003: 14,641
2004: 12,226
2005: 12,525
2006: 11,768
2007: 16,787
2008: 17,580
2009: 13,732

So, at least on the surface, the Revolution have just experienced their greatest attendance decline in club history.
