Default One thing MLS really needs to change for now and future = Conference Championship

Give conference championship titles to the regular season winner in each confercence.

For now, ridiculous stupid things happen like NYRB became West Champ, and RSL became East Champ. WTF.

For future, when we have enough number of clubs in each conference with proper schedule, we can really legitimately crown regular seson winner the conference champion.

The two teams in MLS cup final are MLS Cup Finalists.
One of them becomes MLS Cup Champion, the other one becomes MLS Cup Runner-up.

Make it nice and simple.

p.s. in fact, in the CBA document, they give bonus to the regular season conference champions. Yes, they call it "regular season conference champions"

I would actually back this idea seeing as I suggested it about a year and a half ago.

They won't do it. Even thought it makes the most sense.

there was an article on big apple soccer with an idea similar to this. in that article, the author mentioned that the supporter's shield winner, ie the regular season champion, should have an automatic spot in the mls cup final. the remaining teams would then enter the playoffs to determine who would play the regular season champion in the final. i think that's a great idea...anyone else?

I actually do have an idea.

Everyone STFU. For once. Please.

The damn cup final is in five days, and there's one thread in this forum talking about it. And yet, there are eight -- count 'em, eight -- threads about everything that's wrong with the league on the front page alone, most of them about playoffs/tables.

I don't understand this neurotic fixation that the so-called MLS "fans" have with shredding everything about the league all the time. I can't think of any other league (or any other sport, for that matter) where the most devoted fans act the way some of you do. I don't hear NBA fans complaining about the playoff format. I don't hear NHL fans whining about how the standings are listed. Do you hear anyone trying to insist at the top of their lungs that the New England Patriots were the NFL champions, just because they went 16-0? No, no, and no. But MLS fans insist on having this pointless conversation about who the "true" champions are every damn day. Hell, I'm a Columbus fan, and I'm not whining about this s**t -- what's your excuse?

I can't picture people going into the Premiership forums and saying "This is why the Premiership sucks. Thoughts?" But MLS fans do it three times a day. I don't get it. Why can't people just watch the damn games?

The winner of MLS Cup is the recognized league champ. That's the format, that's how it works, end of debate. Pointless arguments about it don't change anything -- this isn't Burger King; you don't get it your way.

And THIS conversation is particularly stupid. Anyone who follows the league knows the format -- there's an East playoff and a West playoff, but because of Wild Cards, it's possible for a team to switch for seeding purposes. Is it really that difficult to understand, if you really try? What's the big deal about what the MLS Cup finalists are "called"? Is there really any practical value to whining about this stuff? If you follow this league, and you're not bright enough to figure out the concept of Real Salt Lake "winning the Eastern Conference", you've probably got bigger fish to fry in your life. Like trying to figure out what the "H" and the "C" mean when you're in the shower.

Becasue stupid thing just happened again like RSL becoming Eastern Champion. I'm bright enouhg to see that it's lame and stupid. It can be nicer and simpler and improved. Nothing's wrong with discussing that when the league is growing.

Americans don't understand geography, so it's a mute point.

Hey man, if it wasn't for The "Western" Conference Championship, RBNY would have no championships at all.
