Default Disallowed Goal HOU V LAG

OK folks,

The way I saw this is that Ching was fouled, then fell on the LA player, Vaughn has turned and seen he LA player on the floor, and assumed.

I'll admit I'm still furious about this call, but can someone TRY and justify Vaughn's call, I really can't! Especially given we know how much the MLS & the broadcasters love LA.

From MLSNet.com

On the ensuing corner kick, Houston scored but the goal was disallowed after Luis Angel Landin was ruled to have knocked down A.J. DeLaGarza.

I didn't see it. I was pushing out the z's. State Cup again today and leaving for fitness test in 25 mins.

I certainly don't expect MLSNet to argue against the ref.

That's interesting though given the LA fans are saying it's a foul from Ching, and they'd be arguing most against the goal being awarded and that doesn't line up with that.

Good luck with the fitness test.

It was DeLaGarza who got knocked down, but by Ching, not Landin.

I disagree with the call. DeLaGarza backed into the path of Ching. A penalty against DeLaGarza would be harsh but I really don't see why a foul should be called on Ching.

Ching plows through the defender and has his hand on his back.

Because the law states: A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following seven offenses in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force

I think you could see this as a foul or as incidental contact and you'd be correct on either way. It's "in a manner considered by the referee".

The official sees it as a foul by Ching and is reaching with the whistle before the header and blows the whistle before the ball goes in. This tells me he was pretty confident.

I have no problem with the call.

I will say, that without the defender being knocked down, the goal probably does not happen as the header went through the area the defender would have been.

But the problem is that DeLaGarza has as much right to that path as Ching does (even if he's backing in). Ching's obviously the second one to the spot.

The contact is initiated by Ching.

The question is, was it "careless, reckless, or excessive"?

Clearly, Vaughn thought it was.
If he thought it was, he should call the foul.
Not much to argue about.

That's soccer.

Don't you know that Vaughn can see into the future and saw that Houston was going to score so he called the foul to appease the MLS overlords?

I must have missed the part when the defender grabbed Chings' forearm and then ran into it with his back.

You're imagining that. Beerhalter has his hand on Ching's shoulder but there is no proof of any kind of shove or even force of any kind on Berhalter's fault.

The truth is that you know that Ching fouled AJ and you're grasping at straws to justify it.

It seemed an easy call for the ref to make.
