Default More interesting stories from our Brazilian Brothers

This incident occured on wednesday night in the 4th to last round of the season.

If you listen at about 11 or 12 seconds you clearly hear the ref whistle, but he let the goal stand. Yes his call was wrong, but the correct restart would have been a DB no?
What are your thoughts on this situation

Wow. Not sure if he was thinking offside (hard to tell, but it appears that the AR did not signal so, and that the right back played the striker onside) or if he thought the striker deliberately handled the ball, or what.

But it's clear that he raised the whistle to his mouth and did a double-tap.

The restart for an inadvertent whistle is dropped ball.

He may well have thought "Oh meu Deus, what have I done?" and decided that his whistle had no impact on the game and that letting the goal stand would be a better choice than to rob them of it. Not kosher, but perhaps...

There is no but...he blew the whistle clearly before the ball was in the goal. No matter how bad he f@#$d up he cant allow the goal to stand. On top of the mistake he is misapplying the laws of the game...which means he is making a bad mistake a complete disaster and ground for a successful protest..

That is going to be one ugly drop ball at the top of the goal area. How does one manage it in a manner that doesn't create more controversy? Can you count on the players to come up with a sporting solution in a situation like this?

First choice is to stick with the original Offside call.

Once the ref takes that off the table, by seeing no flag and trying to play through the whistle, then he hopes for a sympathetic defender who will agree to kick the ball over the line for a corner. But that seems pretty unlikely--who is going to help out a ref who is going down the tubes.

Third choice is to grin and bear it and do the drop. This is the most likely path of events. Maybe the 'right' team can kick it in after the drop. (Probably not.)

Now one team hates you; oh well, the game will end eventually.
