I'm sure that most everyone has heard by now that Newcastle's owner Mike Ashley has rebranded their venerable ground as sportsdirect.com@St. James' Park Stadium, so named for his company. Chelsea have said that they would consider selling naming rights to Stamford Bridge if the price was right. We all know that once these commercialism trends start, they spread rapidly.
While we've seen new grounds start life with commercial names, the Reebok, the Emirates, stadium:mk, renaming existing grounds seems relatively new. If supporters don't like the new name of their grounds, they should call it by the old name. What's to stop the geordies from still calling it St. James' Park?
