Remember Freddy Adu? Of course you do. In 2004, he was the 14-year-old who was seen as the future of the game in the United States and a potential new global star. The subject of gargantuan hype when he made his Major League Soccer bow in April of that year for DC United, Adu still holds records as the youngest player and goalscorer in the MLS's short history and is also the youngest player to appear for the senior US team.

Before I clicked on this thread I was going to make a joke about Freddy Adu, then I opened it and saw that it was actually about Freddy. Sad story.

"What he needs more than anything is a club where he is appreciated - if there were such a thing as a Twitter FC, it would be ideal."

"Twitter FC" now that is funny.
However, I do enjoy Freddy's tweets!

The article makes it sound as if his season at Benfica was a total disaster.

And while it's true that he didn't log many minutes on the field (he was still only 18), the author fails to mention his goals-per-minutes ratio, which was actually quite high.

The author also fails to add anything new or, in reality, news worthy to the Freddy discussion.

Would've been nice to see that he'd done more digging into the "why isn't he getting playing time?" angle. As the article is, there are several people on this board who could've written the same piece. Might've had a more difficult time getting the up to date quotes, but Freddy didn't really give much anyway.

It's interesting that the answers to all the interviewers questions were simply faxed back by the club. No mention as to what the questions were, what the answers were or who did the answering. That only adds to the mystery of why Freddy can't get time on the field.

We must remember that the blog was written for a British audience, who have no idea what happened to Freddy Adu. So while he didn't present any new information to us, it will be interesting to his readers.

In fact the piece is a lot more complimentary towards Adu than the vast majority of articles written about him these days. And I can't find fault with anything the author states. I don't think there's any question that Adu's career has been massively mismanaged since he was 13-14. And not by his coaches/managers/clubs.........but by Adu's management/agents/advisors.
