Dust off your credit cards - The January window transfer thread
Well summer is long gone, might as well have a new thread!
Quoted a few posts from the last summer transfer thread in case anyone wanted to keep up those lines of discussion.....

Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to swoop for Argentine star Angel Di Maria - and finally fill the gap left by Cristiano Ronaldo's departure.
The Manchester United chief is set to watch 21-year-old Di Maria in action against Everton tonight to make one final check on him ahead of a potential £12million transfer-window deal.
United have spent heavily on wide men by recruiting Nani and the disastrous Zoran Tosic. Those failures have meant that the sale of Ronaldo has been felt acutely.
Di Maria plays down the left but can also operate on the right. He would be the perfect foil for hard-working Antonio Valencia on the other flank.

The real irony in all of this lies in the fact the he made that 'disasterous' part up... in a story that he himself most likely made up on a slow news day!
Had it been a fringe Arsenal youngster, he would have thrown in a plaudit instead (DEFINITELY not something negative). A Liverpool fringe player and it would be most likely 'frustrated' or 'enigmatic' (small chance of 'disasterous') and a Chelsea youngster would have probably drawn 'frustrated' again, or else something to point towards him being 'lost in the wilderness'.
Journalists are lazier than Bulgarian strikers these days...

Sir Alex Ferguson has got up close and personal with one of Manchester United’s top transfer targets.
United boss Ferguson was sat at the next table to Palermo’s Danish defender Simon Kjaer at an awards ceremony in Copenhagen on Monday night.
Ferguson, there to present United legend Peter Schmeichel with an award on his induction into Denmark’s football Hall of Fame, was seen sharing small talk with the highly-rated Kjaer, who is on his transfer radar.

Re: Dust off your credit cards - The January window transfer thread
The money we spent on Tosic is embarassing given that he's not even come close to being a regular. It only confirms my suspeicions that he was bought to swing the Ljajic deal.

Possibly, but I am unsure, we already have a Serbian link in Vidic. I don't get how a club would say "we will sell you this player only if you buy this player too".

Re: Dust off your credit cards - The January window transfer thread
More than a DeRossi type player this team needs a world class AM to play infront of Carrick and Fletcher. A Kaka type player. Ljajic seems to be that kind of player but is still very young. If we dont go for an AM in jan transfer window Ljajic has a very good chance of making a mark for himself because his style of play is exactly what we are missing. Whether he has the quality only time will tell.

He put in a very good performance in his last go with the first team. I realize it was against subpar opposition, but even still, he showed glimpses of talent.
I think he can be a pretty good squad player.

Re: Dust off your credit cards - The January window transfer thread
May be he will be a late developer not everybody develops when 22-25, some people develop quite late after 25, Fletcher isnt even a far away example, some world class players have been late developers, I think we should start judging people on that one criteria, maybe he was a mistake or perhaps he is a late bloomer, time will tell.
Kjaer has done well, he is the type of physically dominating defenders, excellent in the air, I would ideally want someone with pace.

Re: Dust off your credit cards - The January window transfer thread
Cannot see much likelihood us buying anyone in January.
Ljajic will arrive; and Ole confirmed, we are going to apply for a permit for Diouf as well.
The only potential january activity could be -
a. Us buying a goalkeeper if a Neuer or an Akinfeev becomes available. Akinfeev most likely will as well. Do not think I have seen enough to make a judgment but from what little of I have seen, Neuer is prone to making the odd howler and Akinfeev does tend to flap on crosses. We do however know that Fergie does rate Akinfeev highly and we have been consistently linked with both the young German keepers.
b. Us buying a wide player. That should most likely mean the end of Nani at his club; either immediately (being involved as a makeweight) or in the summer. I am actually certain there is a potential class player inside Nani but I wouldn't shed a tear either if this situation unfolds. Potential candidates here might be Ribery (if Bayern actually lower this price since we did inquire for him in the summer) or De Maria (who we have been linked for quite a few years now).
Any other activity (CM, #9) would most likely be in the summer imo.

Re: Dust off your credit cards - The January window transfer thread
I don't think SAF will sign a wide player unless it is Ribery (at least in the jan window).
Nani will probably be given the rest of the season.

Re: Dust off your credit cards - The January window transfer thread
the other problem is signing someone that has played in the CL. if we're going to splash the cash on someone big and then can't play them i the CL i don't see the point. unless that person is someone tearing up the Europa League or domestic league without CL football.
with Ljajic, Diouf, and Hargreaves i'm not sure we'll see other new faces.

Re: Dust off your credit cards - The January window transfer thread
Michael Rensing has just stated that he would like to leave Bayern Munich, he has great natural abilities, and good judgement. His problem has always been never getting constant starts (he was Oli Kahns backup for ages). For those of you who remember the audi cup he can also stop penalties.
I'd like to see him at United but its unlikely.
