Crew Forum :: USL-1 Basically Dead
http://ow.ly/B1zI
TOA breaking away from USL. The new league is applying for Division 2 status in US and Division 1 status in Canada. There's a pretty good chance Detroit will be apart of this as the Michigan Bucks were gunning for a USL-1 spot.
TOA includes: The Atlanta Silverbacks, Carolina Railhawks, Miami FC, Minnesota Thunder, Montreal Impact, Vancouver Whitecaps, and a new club to be formed by St. Louis Soccer United.
Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Re: USL-1 Basically Dead
Since St Louis and Atlanta didn't field teams in 09 are we to assume that they are going to have everything running in 6 months?
I wonder how soon before they begin looking to bring in other investors/teams.
It's going to be an interesting off-season.

Re: USL-1 Basically Dead
Yeah BA has been discussing this on and off in his blog. Interesting to see that the owners finally pulled the trigger and officially started the application process. This could be especially interesting if they are willing to work with MLS in either reserve player movement on the teams or, as Archer suggested, allowing one or two MLS reserve teams to participate.

Re: USL-1 Basically Dead
Thread title is extremely misleading, come on Bradd...
TOA put out a press release to counter USL's from last week. Both sides have weak and strong parts. Certainly the TOA has a lot of issues with Minnesota who haven't paid their players or staff in 10 weeks and owe the USL six figures from last year.
USL has sanctioning, TOA does not. They'll probably get it and their will be two classified Division 2 leagues next year.
USL-1 is nowhere near being dead.

I don't think my title was misleading. Let's break it down:
Current USL-1 Teams (According to USL's website):
Austin Aztex
Carolina Railhawks * Moving to new league
Charleston Battery
Cleveland City Stars
Miami FC Blues * Moving to new league
Minnesota Thunder * Moving to new league
Montreal Impact * Moving to new league
Portland Timbers - MLS in 2011
PR Islanders
Rochester Rhinos
Vancouver Whitecaps * Moving to new league / MLS in 2011
Out of 11 teams, only 5 are remaining. After seeing the exodus of all those teams I think it's a fair opinion that USL-1 probably won't be able to survive.
Mass exodus rarely turns out well for the originating entity.

Detroit (michigan bucks) is moving to USL 1 along with Baltimore (Crystal Palace USA)
Edmonton, ottawa moving to USL in 2011.
Tampa Bay and FC New York new teams in USL for 2010
just a recap on TOA: Mnnesota is broke havent paid there players since Sept and just released them all.
Miami FC nearly folded this season, attendence may have hit 1000 for a single match
Vacouver to MLS in 2011,
silverbacks owner burnt a lot of bridge with sponsorships and some of the fans
Either way its not a good thing overall. to split the Second divison can only hurt US soccer as a whole.

The only person who really believes that is a paranoid, delusional baldheaded schizophrenic from Toronto who is constitutionally incapable of believeing that morethan one person could ever possibly disagree with him.
So when fs wrote about what an ass he is, said TFC loser - the author of a new post a couple days ago about how the crew should be moved out of Columbus - decided that I must be the same guy.
So let that be a warning to all of you: if you think Duane Rollins is an asshole, then you are, in reality, me.
Welcome. We're having jackets made.

No, that was a jibe at rollins' post from the other day.
I have no insight into the true identity of fake sigi, BA or otherwise.
Although I will say that his name begins with 'crewf' and ends in 'ighter'.
