Newcastle United Supporters Trust
Got this email tonight. I'd like to invest but who knows if I even have the minimum funds.
Quote:
Today the Newcastle United Supporters Trust formally launches an
ambitious bid to take back our football club. We need supporters like
yourself to back a supporter takeover - for more information visit
www.nust.org.uk <../../../../>
There are a number of ways to invest in the club and after discussions
with serious Newcastle-based investors we believe that the time is
right for the fans to lead the charge and reclaim their football club.
The investment is backed by a local consortium of companies advising
the Trust, and we've made sure that any investment is safe and
guarateed to be returned to you if the bid fails.
The Yes We Can campaign will run for 6 weeks, and we have a financial
target which we are not announcing yet, as we want to negotiate from a
position of strength with Mike Ashley.
The fans can lead the way where others have failed - by standing
together and investing together - we can make our club the shining
beacon of honesty and integrity and bring the city together to save
our club from the current regime, its mistakes and its calculated
snubs.
When Derek Llambias said the fans could not buy the club - we said YES
WE CAN - and now we aim to prove it with your support.
Newcastle United Supporters Trust on Behalf of the City of Newcastle
and Geordies everywhere.

Re: Newcastle United Supporters Trust
I won't donate to anything with the slogan "Yes we can!"
On a serious note I highly doubt they would be successful and even if they did buy the club, I have no faith they would run it well. Which loud mouth douchebag standing in front of Sky cameras would be the first chairman?

Re: Newcastle United Supporters Trust
Well, I'm at the point where I desperately want Ashley out and I'm convinced anyone would do a better job. The slogan "Yes We Can," annoyed me as well, there is absolutely no point to use that, but of course they aren't Americans so they aren't trying to appeal to us. I wish I had an extra grand lying around, I mean what's the real point in donating 50$?

Re: Newcastle United Supporters Trust
I don't understand how they hope to run the club if somehow they manage to actually pull off buying the club. Where do they plan on coming up with the cash to sign players and pay the bills (besides ticket/merchandise sales of course)? Another campaign with the slogan "yes we can" in which people donate so the club can sign a new player? I don't really understand.
We just need some oil rich Arab to take us off Ashley's hands...

Re: Newcastle United Supporters Trust
Disagree, this will work. Especially if it is modeled similar to the Green Bay Packers. What a refreshing change from the other EPL teams that have sold their souls to Russian Mafia, corrupt Asian politicians, oil $, etc.

0% chance it will work unless the objective is to merely push Ashley to sell to someone else.

Re: Newcastle United Supporters Trust
Real Madrid have this system set up and it works pretty well for them. You guys act like a system of stockholders is so out of the norm. Every team is manage to a certain extent by multiple people. If you look at every business on the NYSE, that's the way they are set up. Now, the stockholders don't make all the major decisions, nor should anyone buying a stake in Newcastle United. I think they should have a minimum amount people could buy in (say 100,000 pounds) but I don't see why it can't be done. You appoint a President and go from there, you keep the ownership and decision-making separate. Shit I wish the ownership and decision making were separate now.

You are aware that the average wage in the North East is around £16,000 a year. I'm not saying that there aren't people here who have that kind of money, but certainly not enough to buy a football club.
