...gotta love this:
"We’ve got a home in Obetz and we exercised our option (to stay there for five more years)."

Yeah, seriously, wtf is that? After all the talk of finding a new home for a practice facility, this is what he gives us?

Because it's a more PC answer than saying, "We dicked around trying to get it where we wanted it (instead of taking advantage of the communities who actually would have built it), the economy went to hell, and now there's not a penny of cash anywhere to build this with."
He wanted it in Columbus or one of the nearby "nice" suburbs, instead of those who offered, and he tried to use the legit offers as leverage. Then, the bubble burst, and now they're stuck in Obetz, in a facility they absolutely couldn't stay in a year ago.

Re: Mitchell: A chat with McCullers
I did go to Crew Stadium today to get a jersey, and I saw a Survey crew working in the parking lot.

Re: Mitchell: A chat with McCullers
The survey crew has been there for over a week. One of my close friends is one of the guys doing the surveying.

Yeah, I understand that, I just think he should've at least said something about the economy having an effect on the situation and that plans are on hold for a new facility. At least something to not keep people in the dark about the situation. Of course, I guess it's not all too important that the fans know what's going on with the practice facility situation, it just seems strange that he didn't mention anything at all about it.

I could have swore I read somewhere the reduced rosters took care of the lockeroom problem they were having and that Obetz was more open then the past to developing some of the land beside the practice facility for additional fields. I think that was from earlier in the season.
Anyway, I don't really get why so many people get worked up about whether or not this new practice facility gets built or not. Who cares where they practice? Obetz is a nice facility with good training grounds, that's all that matters.
The whole thing is just a money scheme to get youth tournaments anyway. HSG makes a killing in Dallas off their fields there and they want the same here in Columbus. If the Hunts really want it, do what they did in the first place; find some land and build it with their own money.

I don't know that this was said, but the reverse was. I.e. that they needed to move from obetz because the Obetz facility had become too small with the increased rosters.
I'm sure they'd still like a new facility with an attached sports med place and all that jazz, but it became a luxury instead of a necessity when the rosters were reduced back down from the developmental team level.

On the slow progress of parking improvements at Crew Stadium (work should begin in the first half of next year):
"We’ve got a design at the state architect's office right now. We hope able to share it soon. There has been some excellent movement on that front."
|
Anyone else a bit disappointed by that "in the first half of next year" bit? Wasn't it supposed to begin late this year?
Oh well, at least they didn't trot out the "60-90 days" line.
