Mexican Futbol: Hall of Fame
http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/ed...lon-de-la-fama
---------------------------------------------------------------
This already has disaster written all over it and by no fault of the organizers.
---------------------------------------------------------------
When looking at developed soccer nations/leagues around the world, Mexico's fans tend to be ignorant about their own league. Their ignorance is not self-induced, but more so its by-product of the press and the federation's failure to inform.
There is not ONE agency in Mexico that compiles statistics. Different news papers (Universal, Excelsior, Reforma, ESTO, etc) claim to have archives and many times, their stats differ from one another.
Very few journos actually dedicate themselves to this. It is said that the FMF calender year books became un-popular after the cachirules scandal. When a couple reporters stated that some of the players were overage, the FMF denied and asked for proof, and they showed them their own year- books (anuarios).
We have press that are misguided and misinformed.
We have the FMF that do not have full compilation of all statistics since the leagues inception in 1943.
What criteria will be used?
In order to measure something, there has to be a reference point and Mexico does not have that.
---------------------------------------------------------------
And what is worse is that the company that has the most material (video, stats, etc) is the company that is least wanted by the fan---TELEVISA.
I see most of the comments left by users on esmas, mediotiempo, yahoo, etc and virtually all of them think of this as a farce because Televisa is involved?
its pathetic how people are programmed to hate something without even knowing why they hate it.
Not the FMF, not Conade, not COM, nobody has gone about setting up a hall of fame (which is something that is needed) and Televisa goes about it and they are bashed for it...

Re: Mexican Futbol: Hall of Fame
So fans/owners/former players/committee/whoever will enshrine the most influential mexican players of all time. Yeah, they won't have exactly how many goals/assists/minutes on hand for every player, but do they really need those stats to decide who deserves to be in there?

One of the great things about footie is that statistics alone do not dictate a player's worth. And furthermore, there are too many random variables that make it nearly impossible to depict a player's actual worth in numerical terms.
But what will they base it on? They have to base it on something.
If the HOF is just recognizing the 60s Chivas team, the 70s Cruz Azul team, the 80s Americateam , and 90s Necaxa/Toluca teams..... then it really is not a HOF.
