Default going to EPL for the stadium/experience

Despite my fears of starting a blood feud on this board, I would like to pose the following:

I have been to only one Premier League game/stadium (Selhurst Park, to see Wimbledon v Sheffield Wednesday), and I would like to see another. I'm close enough that I can go to anywhere in England for a weekend. I would like to attend a match in a stadium with the best traditional atmosphere. To me that means an old stadium where the fans are right on the pitch. This of course rules out huge stadiums and modern stadiums.

What would you recommend?

If I had to chose at the moment, I would consider seeing Everton and Goodison Park. From what I've seen on TV, it seems extremely intimate. But I'm not familiar with all the stadiums, so there might be one that would be better.

At this point I might be able to do this third weekend in January.

OK, go at it......

Well as an Evertonian I wholeheartedly agree with your choice!

There seems to be a trade of with grounds in the Prem at the moment. The new stadiums offer better views, comfortable seating and top notch facilities, but are often accused of lacking in atmosphere )I think Stoke are perhaps an exceptional, they never shut up!).

The older grounds like GP are seen to have a slightly better atmosphere but have cramped wooden seats, pillars blocking your view and tired old facilities.

If you went to Goodison I would try and make sure you get a ticket in advance so you know you will have a good seat, otherwise you could be stuck behind a pillar.

Third weekend in Jan is FA Cup 4th round weekend so you won't know the fixtures until early Jan, however the Man City game the weekend before (the 16th) should be a good one to go to.
