RSL Folklore. Superstitions, Rituals, Performances, Culture and everything else.
Im doing a paper in my Folklore class about the community of RSL, its fanbase and everything else that has to do with its lore. If you can think of anything that we do as fans, or maybe what the players do before games as rituals etc... that would help define our culture or group post it here!
This will help with my paper, but also allow others to see what our group is and maybe give some insights on stuff that we do (hell, maybe even start some new stuff!).
I know there are a lot of forums and posts you can write on, but take some time and put down what you and your family do before/during/after games, what your section does before/during/after games, what the players do etc...
ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT! THANKS!

Re: RSL Folklore. Superstitions, Rituals, Performances, Culture and everything else.
Checking out Boz's website is always a ritual to see the best RSL photo/art.
I had a ritual after the games of always going out to the car and not leaving the parking lot until I had listened to all of the post game show.
Also, before the games I would get there early enough that I could get the program, get to my seat, and have enough time to leisurely read the program cover to cover before the game began.
I know, not very exciting stuff but that's just the old man in me I guess.

I love listening to the post game too. I like getting there early to get a program and watch the teams practice. I like that the most. Great stuff.
Aside from the obvious cheering etc... what does our supporter groups do before/during/after the games? Any input would be great!

Re: RSL Folklore. Superstitions, Rituals, Performances, Culture and everything else.
The typical game day for my family:
Day before or early in the morning of the game I head to the store (Walmart most of the time) and buy at leat 10 streamers.
Cut them in half to have 20 streamers for game time
Shred about 50-100 pieces of paper (minimum) for confetti and bag it into gallon sized bags (at least 2)
Read up on the forum, check fm/boz/keepinit/rsltothecore to see if any last minute things are coming up. Post a prediction or give my feelings on the game ahead
Take a drive passed the stadium (on i-15) to my parents place in Riverton.
Meet up with my brother and dad, in all my swag (scarf, shirt, and hat sometimes)
head to dinner, usually at the Downtown Philly in SoJo (or 5 guys in Sandy... healty stuff I know)
Get a good cheesestake/burger, enjoy it while chatting about the match ahead.
About an hour before kick off we head out to the stadium, listening to the pregame show if it is on or listen to another game if possible.
Get to our seats (wherever we decide they are this game, ha ha) with about 15 minutes left until the clock strikes 0.
Get "set up"... have streamers at the ground ready to be thrown, the bag of confetti open ready to be tossed in handfulls, and hang any posters we decided to make for this game.
Stand for the pledge, hold up my scarf during the players introductions (or as long as my arms will let me)
Throw a streamer or two and a handful of confetti on the opening kickoff.
If we score: Throw a bunch of streamers, confetti, and slap the sign in front of me
If we get scored on: Boo like crazy and sit down while the other team celebrates
After the game, celebrate by throwing remaining streamers (if won) and pack up our stuff.
Walk back to car in commons parking lot, usually talking about anything interesting during the game
Listen to the post game show, laugh at bill and spence's stupidity half the time.
Get home, dust off all the remaining confetti, and come straight to my computer.
Post a couple things, then call it a night and fall asleep.
Hope that helped

oh, kind of weird, but whenever I hold up my scarf, I make sure that I have the red side facing the pitch. I have never, and never will for some reason, have the blue side facing the pitch. I do hate that color so thats likely the biggest factor...

WOW! That's a lot of stuff! I could definitely adopt the 5 guys ritual before the game. I it how you guys make signs and put so much time into the streamers and confetti. That's awesome!

15, you crack me up --- love your game day....
I can't speak for the supporter's groups --- but I've witnessed Barra Real march around the concourse to their seats chanting and singing -
I seem to remember FCB/RCB doing this at Rice Eccles - do they still do it at Rio Tinto?
Barra Real also has an awesome tradition at halftime of going underneath the East Stands - dancing, singing - all sorts of fans join in the 'mosh' pit - it's great.
I'm sure there are all sorts of supporter groups tailgating traditions that could be added here.

Re: RSL Folklore. Superstitions, Rituals, Performances, Culture and everything else.
I never wear any RSL gear before game time. Every time I do we either lose or tie. Besides that my day is pretty boring.

I always leave at 5:30, and when driving past the stadium on State Street listen to a song by Elli Kokkinou with the bass and volume up. The week that my friends and I didn't do that was when we lost to Kansas City.

You could follow Fish's pre-concert ritual in "The Rocker" and rock a pocket of puke.
