That's progress. A generation ago he father would have made an honor killing and no one would question it.

Saudi is a little kooky but we need them. They are a good friend to the US and the only thing keeping Yemen from becoming the next Waziristan

When my toddler picks up a piece of bark, puts it in her mouth and says "mmmmm pizza". That's a little kooky. The total repression of the female 50% of the population and the world's foremost leader in officially sanctioned anti-semitic pro-terroristic propaganda, is, at the very least, a lot kooky.

We only need them because the Bush family and their ilk have made it so. If we're willing to make a few short term sacrifices, we wouldn't need them at all, and they would be nothing more than a backwards, ridiculous kingdom sitting on a natural resource which suddenly isn't so important or expensive anymore.

No - we need them like a smack addict needs his connection. It's a horrible relationship. Progress isn't a monarchy, it's a democratically elected government. Saudi Arabia can f*ck off. Here's to finding reliable alternative energy sources. They'll become another forgotten backwater

Oil dependence has been a problem for decades. If memory serves, John Anderson spoke about this in his 1980 campaign.

Hence I said the "bush family" which goes back a lot further in the corridors of power than 1980, and I said "and their ilk" meaning those like them.

All of Bushie's pre-Iraq speeches could apply to S.A. "A brutal regime where the people aren't truly free, etc. We wanna spread some freedom to the MidEast...now watch this drive!"

And then when they have no money do you think they will progress or regress? Think about it. Our oil dependence is what is pushing the peninsula forward.

If you are really concerned about the rights of Saudi the last thing you want is for them to become Yemen.

I mean I guess it would be nice if they progressed all the way into the 15th century, but I'm not holding out hope that our #1 ally in the Arab world (cough-cough) will do so. And I'd personally like nothing more to do with them considering most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis and their govt. spreads Wahabism around the world fomenting hate and terrorist attacks. They're scum.

I'm not really joking that we invaded the wrong country (assuming Bush was hell-bent on invading an Arab country that had something to do with 9/11, which he was) is what I'm telling you. Oil & that special Bush family relationship (greed on both sides) is what saved their bacon, so to speak
