Default Ben in 2010

is this a good thing or not. Ben said he is commited to 2010, today on his online chat

last year without him, the team fell apart.

this year with him, the team stayed around, although the two games in the race not showing up at all.

Benny there to put a foot up some butt, i believe is a good thing.
we have seen what happens without him.

Next year should be the torch passing though, someone else has to step up next year and become the new leader.

Ben for team medical staff in 2011! He can't be worse than what we have as far as I've heard...

There's a lot more to it than that. Last year we broke the bank on a number 10, and the guy was injured for much of the year. This year, we picked up 3 young players in Jakovic, Wallace and Pontius who contributed BIG, right out the gate. Ben is a warrior. However, the team would be better with another decent 90 minute, 27 game a year player at Ben's salary. It's not like he's here on the cheap.

I'm okay with him sticking around.

It would be great if we could pro-rate his salary for number of games played, though.

On a salary basis, if you keep Ben, you must jettison at least two of Moreno, Gomez, Fred & Emilio or you are in cap hell with older higher priced, underperforming players. I admire Ben and he has been great, but this year provided strong evidence that he has lost at least a step (after his ankle woes probably cost him two or three) and on a benefit for salary basis, he's not worth it. However, I have no issue with DCU keeping him, it's just that others must go.

Any two of Olsen, Moreno, Gomez, and Fred can be a great value to any team. But all four, and you've given up too much speed and stamina. That's been a key problem for DC the past 3 or 4 years: All our key skill/creative players are at the same stage in their careers.

We need to get more balanced in this core area.

Let him come to camp. Make him an offer based on what he can do.
Ben's a big boy-if he can't contribute, he'll move on with class.
