Default 23 for the Cup: World Cup Squads

Now most teams have qualified, who do you expect to be there with their teams?

Any and all squads are welcome here.

Please take into consideration your coaches thoughts and players who you believe should be part of the squad.

It's one or the other actually...

For the sake of real information, I suggest everyone go for the first.

Germany:

GK Enke (Hannover)
GK Adler (Leverkusen)

GK Neuer (Schalke)

DF Mertesacker (Werder)

DF Westermann (Schalke)
DF Boateng (Hamburg)

DF Höwedes (Schalke)
DF Lahm (Bayern)

DF Beck (Hoffenheim)

DF Schäfer (Wolfsburg)

DF Jansen (Hamburg)

MF Ballack (Chelsea)
MF Rolfes (Leverkusen)

MF Khedira (Stuttgart)
MF Hitzlsperger (Stuttgart)

MF Schweinsteiger (Bayern)

MF Trochowski (Hamburg)

FW Podolski (Köln)

FW Kießling (Leverkusen)

FW Klose (Bayern)
FW Gomez (Bayern)

It's a bit early to say anything for sure, so I made this colour coded. Green means (almost) sure to go, orange will probably go if the performance doesn't decline and/or there's no alternative that plays a spectacular season, red is a rather shaky prediction.

The defense is the least predictable right now, a lot of options, only Lahm and Mertesacker are really secure in their position. I think Höwedes deserves a chance, so far he didn't get one, but I expect that he'll play his first nt match in November. Alternatives to the players I mentioned are Tasci (not a good season so far, but Löw likes him), Metzelder, if he is healthy and plays in Madrid (which doesn't seem too likely), Hummels, Castro and several others.

In the midfield, change is much less likely, I don't think there'll be any changes. Possibly Gentner instead of Marin or Khedira, maybe Jansen gets nominated as a midfielder instead of one of those, but I don't think so.

Among the strikers, it depends a bit on Helmes, he's currently injured, if he gets back fast, he's likely to get a nomination - none of Gomez, Klose and Podolski are having a good season so far, so I guess it's possible that one of them gets kicked out for a striker that actually performs. Apart from that, Löw currently likes Cacau, for no reason anyone other than himself can see, so he could be taken instead of Kießling.

You could put Podolski and Klose in green.

Capello prefers both Foster and Robinson to Hart.
Micah Richards hasn't made a squad in God knows how long and now he's not even first choice at Man Ciy, I doubt he has much chance of making it to South Africa. Upson, who's currently ahead of Lescott in the pecking order, is pretty much odds on to make the squad and Wes Brown has a decent chance.
Walcott is also considered more of a forward than winger for England and it's unlikely Capello will take more than five to the WC. Barring injury, England's frontline options are probably going to look something like this: Rooney, Defoe, Crouch, Heskey and Walcott, with Carlton Cole, Agbonlahor and Bent missing out.
Also, if Joe Cole gets fit, he could well oust Shaun Wright-Phillips (SWP).

I'll give a shot at the USA, but recent events have made 2 surefire starters doubtful.

Bank on it:
GK: Tim Howard (Everton)
GK: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa)
D: Carlos Bocenegra (c) (Rennes)
D: Steve Cherundolo (Hannover '96)
D: Jay DeMerit (Watford)
D: Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA)
D: Jonathan Spector (West Ham United)
D: Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew)
M: Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy)
M: Clint Dempsey (Fulham)
M: Micheal Bradley (Borussia Monchengladbach)
M: Jermaine Jones (Schalke '04)
M: Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus)
M: Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo)
M: Jose Francisco Torres (Pachuca)
F: Jozy Altidore (Hull City)
---------------------------------------

Shoe-Ins if Healthy:
D: Oguchialu Onyewu (AC Milan), shoe in if he's healthy (torn patellar tendon)
F: Charlie Davies (Sochaux), ditto (car accident: fractured femur, tibia, elbow, facial fractures, lacerated bladder).
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Rest of the roster:
GK: Troy Perkins (Valerenga)
D: Edgar Castillo (Tigres)
M: Maurice Edu (Rangers)
F: Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo)
F: Conor Casey (Colorado)
---------------------------------------

That's as of right now.
If Onyewu can't go = Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City)
If Davies can't go = Jeff Cunningham (Dallas)

Also in contention: M Ricardo Clark (Houston), D Frankie Hejduk (Columbus), F Kenny Cooper (1860 Munich), GK Kasey Keller (Seattle), M Robbie Rogers (Columbus).

And if course, if Brad Friedel (Aston Villa) said he wanted to play, I'm sure we could make room. After all, his backup is the #2.
