I'm sure he'll be offered a job at the Heritage Foundation.

Do you have any proof of this?
Will you promise to never post on BigSoccer again if you're wrong?

Re: Louisiana Justice of Peace Denies Marriage License to Interracial Couple
I have a question:
From the AP article: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1
Quote:
"It is really astonishing and disappointing to see this come up in 2009," said American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana attorney Katie Schwartzman. "The Supreme Court ruled as far back as 1963 that the government cannot tell people who they can and cannot marry."
The ACLU was preparing a letter for the Louisiana Supreme Court, which oversees the state justices of the peace, asking them to investigate Bardwell and see if they can remove him from office, Schwartzman said.
"He knew he was breaking the law, but continued to do it," Schwartzman said.
According to the clerk of court's office, application for a marriage license must be made three days before the ceremony because there is a 72-hour waiting period. The applicants are asked if they have previously been married. If so, they must show how the marriage ended, such as divorce.
Other than that, all they need is a birth certificate and Social Security card. The license fee is $35, and the license must be signed by a Louisiana minister, justice of the peace or judge. The original is returned to the clerk's office.
|
If we indeed have the "right to marry anyone we choose", then why do you have to get a license? The whole point of a license is to ask someone's permission to do something.
I don't need a license to speak. I don't need a license to go to church. I don't need a license to have a trial by jury. If indeed the right of people to get married is also a right, why is a license needed?
I would hope the ACLU would advocate for the end of government marraige.

Does your right to speak or go to church entitle you to my fortune when I pass away?

You don't have the right to marry a 12 year old.

Thanks, I was unaware of that. Clearly my statement was supporting adults marrying 12 year olds.
