Hermann candidates based on, ya know, production
With the regular season nearing the halfway point I thought a thread talking about players who are earning consideration for the Hermann based on their play on the field would be warranted.
This is opposed to the silly Hermann Trophy watch list which rarely seems to be able to identify in preseason most of the players who will contend for the award, let alone win it.
I'll start by tossing out some names and their stats but welcome others to make other suggestions. I just ask you explain why you think a player deserves it.
^Andre Akpan, Sr. F, Harvard (8-1-0)
9 games, 7 goals, 5 assists
J.C. Banks, Jr. M, Wisconsin-Green Bay (8-1-2)
11 games, 10 goals, 5 assists
Andrew Bulls, So. MF, Maryland-Baltimore County (10-1-0)
11 games, 14 goals, 5 assists
Teal Bunbury, So. F, Akron (10-0-0)
10 games, 8 goals, 2 assists
Matt Eliason, Jr. F, Northwestern (6-1-3)
10 games, 9 goals, 1 assist
Mauro Fuzetti, Sr. F, Michigan (8-2-1)
10 games, 8 goals, 3 assists
Levi Houapeu, Jr. F, Maryland-Baltimore County (10-1-0)
11 games, 9 goals, 9 assists
Michael Nanchoff, R-So. M, Akron (10-0-0)
10 games, 2 goals, 9 assists
Kyle Nakazawa, Sr. M, UCLA (6-1-1)
8 games, 7 goals, 3 assists
Matthew Skonicki, Sr. F, Winthrop (7-2-1)
10 games, 9 goals, 5 assists
^Andrew Wiedeman, Jr. F, California (7-2-0)
9 games, 9 goals, 3 assists
^ Were on the Hermann preseason watchlist.
I only included attacking players. When I have time, I'll toss out some names of defenders, keepers and D-mids who are having strong years and should get some recognition, too. Again, please add names you think deserve it and why.
I also included the team's record because, fair or not, it's almost impossible to win the Hermann if you aren't playing on a good team.
If you’re into the history of American soccer you’ll recognize Banks as the son of former US World Cup starter Jimmy Banks; Nanchoff as the son of and nephew of former NASL and US national team players George and Louie, respectively; and Bunbury as the son of former Canadian international and MLS player Alex Bunbury.

Re: Hermann candidates based on, ya know, production
Charlie Reiter, Sr, F, Davidson(9-1)
10 games 7 goals, 7 assists
Alex caskey, Jr, MF, Davidson(9-1)
10 games 6 goals, 2 assists
Davidsons turn around from 4-14-1 last year to 9-1 this year is largely due to the performance of these 2 players

Akpan's got it in the bag. He has the name recognition, the offensive numbers, and the winning team around him.
I don't think he has any serious rivals, although I'll throw out a few more names for the heck of it ... Michael Farfan, Matt Kassel, Bright Dike, Dane Saintus, Sam Arthur.

Isn't "for the heck of it" enough of a reason why?
Basically, the guys I listed play important roles for bigger schools. Following your lead, they're still offensive players, although Kassel and Farfan aren't pure attackers. Although I've seen them all play before, I can't pretend to know their games in any detail.

Re: Hermann candidates based on, ya know, production
Thought I'd updat the list, and the stats, of the players who are earning it on the field as opposed to those on the joke that is the Hermann watch-list...
^Andre Akpan, Sr. F, Harvard (9-2-1)
12 games, 8 goals, 5 assists
J.C. Banks, Jr. M, Wisconsin-Green Bay (10-2-2)
14 games, 11 goals, 5 assists
Ronnie Bouemboue, R-Sr. F, NC State (9-3-1)
13 games, 7 goals, 6 assists
Andrew Bulls, So. MF, Maryland-Baltimore County (10-3-0)
13 games, 15 goals, 6 assists
Teal Bunbury, So. F, Akron (13-0-0)
13 games, 10 goals, 3 assists
Bright Dike, R-Sr. F, Notre Dame (7-6-1)
14 games, 8 goals, 2 assists
Austin da Luz, Sr. M, Wake Forest (9-2-2)
13 games, 3 goals, 11 assists
Matt Eliason, Jr. F, Northwestern (7-2-4)
13 games, 10 goals, 2 assists
Mauro Fuzetti, Sr. F, Michigan (9-3-1)
12 games, 8 goals, 3 assists
Levi Houapeu, Jr. F, Maryland-Baltimore County (10-3-0)
13 games, 10 goals, 9 assists
Michael Nanchoff, R-So. M, Akron (13-0-0)
13 games, 4 goals, 9 assists
^Kyle Nakazawa, Sr. M, UCLA (8-1-2)
11 games, 8 goals, 5 assists
Charlie Reiter, Sr. F, Davidson (10-3-0)
13 games, 9 goals, 7 assists
Matthew Skonicki, Sr. F, Winthrop (8-2-2)
12 games, 11 goals, 6 assists
^Andrew Wiedeman, Jr. F, California (8-5-0)
13 games, 10 goals, 3 assists
^ Were on the Hermann preseason watchlist.
Again, as always feel free to add others you think should be considred AND WHY (as in stats and what they've done to make their team better).
Also, I still want to show some love to some defenders and goalkeepers when I get a chance. Others are welcome to do the same thing.

Re: Hermann candidates based on, ya know, production
I think Bouemboue's stats are reversed. Isn't it 6g - 7a?
I like Bouemboue a lot, but his ACC production to date hasn't met my expectations. Only 1 goal in 6 games so far. He does have 3 assists, but I was anticipating more goals given his start to the season.

I won't be at all surprised if he's moved to LB as a pro as goal-scoring really isn't his forte.
He might make it as a left mid, but it definitely won't be as a forward.
That doesn't mean he should get a pass on not scoring more in the ACC, just pointing out there is a reason for it.
