Since posters are violating the sanctity of the result tag already, I'll post what needs to happen for the US to advance to the 2nd round now since we finished 3rd in Group C with 3 points and a -3 differential.

Note: goals scored will affect these scenarios, especially the Group F ones.

2 of 3 conditions need to occur for US to advance:

Group D: A draw; or England wins by 2 goals or less; or Uzbekistan wins by only 1 goal.

Group E: Czech Republic defeats Costa Rica by any number of goals; and Brazil wins, draws, or loses by only 1 goal to Australia.

Group F: UAE defeats Hungary by 5 goals (4 goals results in FIFA Fair Play where Hungary defeats US I think due to many cards we received); and Honduras defeats, draws, or loses by 5 goals to South Africa.

Group D appears to be most likely scenario. Group E is possible as well. I don't think we can count on Group F's happening.

If a 3rd place team ends up on 4 goals scored and a -3 differential, then it goes to FIFA Fair Play, which I think the US is going to lose.

Remember, Italy and Nigeria have to advance as well in a US advance scenario, so it's ABCD, ABCE and ABCF that we want.

According to the FIFA regulations for the event, in any of these 3 scenarios, 3rd place in Group C plays 1st place in Group A.

So if we advance, we play Egypt.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I'm hoping we don't advance. I just don't want to see our kids humiliated again.
