Default Honduras Names Squad for U.S., El Sal

http://www.laprensa.hn/Deportes/Edic...-sin-sorpresas

PORTEROS: Noel Valladares (Olimpia), Donis Escober (Olimpia), Ricardo Canales (Motagua).

DEFENSAS: Víctor Bernárdez (Anderlecht, Bélgica), Osman Chávez (Platense), Maynor Figueroa (Wigan, Inglaterra), Boniek García (Olimpia), Emilio Izaguirre (Motagua), Erick Norales (Marathón), Carlos Palacios (Real España), Mauricio Sabillón (Marathón).

VOLANTES: Edgard Álvarez (Bari, Italia), Julio César León (Parma, Italia) Ramón Núñez (Cruz Azul, México), Amado Guevara (Toronto FC, Estados Unidos), Wilson Palacios (Tottenham, Inglaterra), Hendry Thomas (Wigan, Inglaterra), Danilo Turcios (Olimpia), Melvin Valladares (Real España).

DELANTEROS: Carlos Pavón (Real España), Carlo Costly (Belchatow, Polonia), Walter Martínez (Marathón), Jerry Palacios (Marathón) y David Suazo (Inter Milán, Italia)

--Guevara and Turcios are out vs. the U.S. on card accumulation.

--Sabillon was injured recently for Marathon and did not play vs. DC United, but is expected to be OK.

--Ditto for Suazo, whose pulled muscle kept him out of Inter's 18 that traveled to Kazan for the CL match.

My prediction for Hon. lineup and setup vs. U.S., with Suazo the real question because of his leg and lack of playing time:

--------------Valladares--------------
---------Figueroa-----Chavez----Izaguirre
Sabillon------------------------------
---------Thomas----------------------
--------------------Rambo de Leon-----
------Palacios-------Nunez-------------
---------------Costly------------------
---------------Pavon------------------

--Costly could be replaced by Suazo. Let's see if Rueda has the guts to bench Pavon instead, whose aerial game won't be nearly as effective vs. the U.S.--I doubt it.

--Honduras is a narrow team that gets most of its vertical attacking width from Sabillon.

--Nunez likes to get wide to the left sideline and provide inswingers with his right foot. He's not the type to run the line in the true sense, but will cut in to shoot with his right or cross. He provides "horizontal" attacking width.

--Rambo de Leon is DEADLY shooting from long range.

--Palacios tends to disappear with Honduras, at least compared to his EPL form. Maybe without Guevara in there he'll shine more and take the ball more.

--Suazo seems to be an enigma with Honduras. He can beat three guys, make a 40 yard run, but he doesn't link up or pass the ball that well at all.

--Valladares has cost the team time and again in goal, from the blunder that gave away the win at T&T to getting stuck in no man's land on the U.S.'s second goal in Chicago. He's a good shot-stopper but terrible on crosses.

--For me, when playing for Honduras, Suazo and Palacios are overrated, Sabillon, Pavon, Costly, Nunez and Figueroa underrated.

Nice post.

Honduras has an outstanding team. A few of the guys who play in the local Honduran leagues will probably be moving on, shortly.

It will be interesting seeing what happens with David Suazo and his injury.
Usually, he is used as a winger, a la Andres Guardado, as opposed to a true forward. He is one of the fastest players in Concacaf and will be a huge match up problema for us.

If he's good to go and his mobility is there, absolutely.

And that is a particularly good OP to start a thread. His other Honduras thread-start is good as well.

In the Bari - Milan match I watched, Edgard Alvarez looked very dangerous. At times he was absolutely dominating Gattuso.

Yeah Edgard Alvarez dominated inter as well, it was old zaneti covering him but he ran circles around him. The only problem is that while Alvarez can run circles around people and give good passes he can't kick the ball to save his life.

I don't know, according to this here youtube video, he has a %90 percent completion rate, 9/10 shots goals!

hhahaa! anyways, well said cookie! hopefully Honduras can show it's depth, this game. No Guevara, or Turcios? It's ok, bring in Thomas and Alvarez off the bench.

Rambo is a crazy player, I think he is crazy in real life, but he can bend it like beckham.
