2018 and 2022 World Cups-Does anybody know...
...Why are the hosts for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups are being decided at the same time(same day/same event) which is in December 2010)??I believe it's the first time that FIFA is doing it this way.In recent years,it was decided one World Cup at a time. Why all of a sudden 2 World Cups on the same night?
Why should the host of the 2022 World Cup be awarded/known more than a decade before it's actually going to take place? It will be announced in late 2010,yet that tournament will only kickoff in June 2022...South Korea and Japan were awarded the 2002 edition in 1996,Germany was awarded the 2006 World Cup in 2000,South Africa were given the hosting rights in 2004 for the 2010 World Cup,all three 6 years before the actual event.Brazil was awarded the 2014 World Cup in 2007 if I'm not mistaking which is 7 years before the actual event but I believe that this was due to the fact that all the other CONMEBOL members agreed that Brazil should host so therefor, there was no voting/bidding(it was also under the rotation policy),hence the 7 years before instead of 6....
Is it because Sepp Blatter knows that his time as FIFA president could end in the next few years(He's 73 years old I think) and he wants to be remembered as the FIFA president who has awarded the most FIFA World Cups under his presidency or something like that?

What kind of problems? Are you talking about the strikes by the workers on the construction sites of the stadiums?A few of them took place but so far South Africa is on time.

Yes, but some of the stadiums weren't ready for the Confederations Cup like they should have been. I also think its plow by Blatter to use his power while he still has it. I think maybe 10 years ahead of time would be a good amount.

FIFA has done this before. Germany Argentina and Spain were given 1974, 78 and 82 respectively at the same time.

Everyone knew that the 2018 World Cup was to be in Europe. All the other potential bidders were staking a claim for 2022. It's actually more cost effective for it to be decided now.

Maybe he wants to be known as the President who spread the World Cup around the World and opened new markets for Football. This way he can get one more new region awarded a World Cup during bhis time as President.

Or maybe he just wants to make sure he decides the 2022 bid now, in case he's out of power later.

Re: 2018 and 2022 World Cups-Does anybody know...
I guess Blatter getting old is one big reason.
But his argument was that the number of very good bidders is incredible (usually there are no more than 2 or 3 bids with any hope of success, often enough there weren't even 2, now there are 5), and it would be a waste of effort if half of them would go through the whole procedure in 4 years again. And I actually think it's a valid argument. The whole bidding process costs a lot of money, and at least at the time of the decision it didn't look like 4 more years would make a difference on the bidding countrys for 2022, though right now it looks like Australia might benefit from a bit more time.

Because Australia needs a little more time.
