no real surprise. Its hard to compete when your crown jewel stadiums will be 60 years old. It's a shame that they don't use this opportunity to upgrade the stadiums, but the owners would have to spend a significant amount of their own money.

I think the owners gathered and saw that the government was in no position to help. And they weren't going to pay for everything.

Atleast will get to be the home* team in 2022.

I am sure the recession and the global markets weighed in huge in their decision to retire their bids. Personally, I think they acted prematurely.

If they are saying that they can not have 10 stadiums, then we can deduce that the Mexican league is not heading towards the premier league status that we all keep reading about.

The plan to transform into a premier league not only was suppose to be seen on the pitch (better quality players), but better facilities.

----------

If the Mexican economy can grow 3-5 percent, there is no reason why they can not host it.

I am sorry, but when you break down Brazil's economy on a percent basis, they are not better than Mexico's economy.

lawl.

Necio de Maria doesn't even know when Mexico hosted the 2 previous world cups.

Apparently we hosted the world cup in 1970 and 1998.

anyways no big surprises here. We can pull it off. But Mexico isn't in its best shape at the moment.

That is the real reason. They would need to invest a lot of money to either renovate or build new stadiums. Short term thinking by the owners.

The difference is that Brazil is recovering from their economic crisis, while Mexico is not. Their economy is coming back strong. Mexico is not in as good shape.
