Ranking MLS teams by recent performances
as the season panned out, teams like NYRB, SJ, FCD and KC quickly feel down the ranks and by now have been eliminated (or all but eliminated). but while they don't have much of a chance of making the playoffs, these teams have suddenly sparked to life and are playing better than they have all year. and better than teams like DC and LA, who are still in the playoff picture, but simply not impressing of late.
so, i was wondering how would one rank the MLS teams based on the recent performances and upsets of the past few weeks, almost like ranking teams as if the season started a month or 2 ago (but i don't want this to be statistical)
I may not be the best at judging these things, but based on recent results, considering if games were home or away and whom they were agianst, i came up with this list:
The hottest teams in MLS right now
1) Crew
2) houston
3) dallas
4) new york
5) san jose
6) chivas
7) new england
8) fire
9) colorado
10) kc
11) seattle
12) toronto
13) rsl
14) la
15) dc
note the teams that are ranked 3-5: dallas came to life in a remarkable 6-3 win in LA, narrowly lost a seasaw battle in KC and then stomped RSL 3-0; New York were turning out to be having one of the worst seasons of any mls team in history, and then suddenly then beat the hottest team in the league, the crew (NYRB are the only MLS team to do so in the 2nd half of this year!!!) and than the other night they salvaged a tie away vs chivas! San Jose were robbed of victories by conor casey stoppage pks in 2 1-1 draws with colorado in a week, then they went to DC and got a surprising away victory. meanwhile, poor performances by dc and la see them at the bottom.
I am curious to see how your lists turn out, let me know what you think

Re: Ranking MLS teams by recent performances
I get where your coming from but I wouldn't give New York too much credit. I think they have stopped the uncontrolled bleeding which is great but I wouldn't put them so high on your list.
Kudos to Richie, he's actually taking control of the situation but to rank them so high when there is really nothing left to do this year except go through the motions and start rebuilding.

What do you mean nothing to do? We still have a home date with TFC left on the calendar.

Seriously. Way to go 00Kevin.
So if you were to only look at the last two games, you'd put LA somewhere in the middle of the pack, right? And what if you had included the game before it, when LA beat Chivas.
