Preview/Game Thread Bolton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur
Reebok Stadium, Burnden Way, Horwich, Bolton
Saturday 3rd October 2009, Kick Off 15:00
Premier League, Match 8
Bolton Wanderers: 13th Premier League, 7 points from 18
Tottenham Hotspur: 4th Premier League, 15 points from 21
Tottenham Hotspur travel to the north-west to face an improving Bolton Wanderers, who's form has picked-up in recent weeks. Spurs have scored ten goals in their last two matches, both of which were against opponents from the north-west - a 5-1 win over Preston North End in the League Cup and a 5-0 win against Burnley in the Premier League. Harry will be looking to keep Spurs' record-breaking early season form going at the Reebok Stadium as the current points haul of 15 from the first 7 matches is two better than the previous club Premier League record, which was set in season 1999-2000.
Both previous matches produced hat-tricks for Tottenham's strikers with Peter Crouch netting three against Preston and Robbie Keane scoring four against Burnley. Together with Jermain Defoe's League hat-trick away to Hull, this means that three different Tottenham players have already chalked-up hat-tricks this season. The last time that happened was back in season 1994-95 with Jurgen Klinsmann (v Watford in the League Cup), Teddy Sheringham (v Newcastle United in the League) & Ronnie "The Rocket" Rosenthal (v Southampton in the FA Cup).
Both Bolton and Spurs were in the draw for the League Cup 4th Round on Saturday. Bolton are due to play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge while Spurs were drawn at home to Everton. Bolton have never won the League Cup but have been losing Finalists twice.
LAST LEAGUE MATCH LINE-UPS

THFC6061, I like your website. Do you think it's possible for you to add an assists column for Spurs stats?

Thanks!
Generally speaking, it's only the Premier League which officially credits assists - I've not seen them for the League Cup, FA Cup or European competitions (which is academic as far as we're concerned this season).
However, I do publish a combined goals and assists table which includes every player in the Premier League who has either scored a goal, assisted in a goal or both.

(Note: stats to 20th September 2009 - I'll update once the current round of matches is over on Monday night)

Bolton are on a decent run at the moment, do fancy our chances against their back 4 if it's Keane and Defoe upfront again.

If we want to finish top 4, we need to win these road games against a pretty decent side.

I do not. They have a strong back 4 and I think this would be an excellent time to match strength for strength. Get Pav and Crouch out there so we have height over them and send speed and crossing on the flanks. Small guys aren't going to win the battles against a team that is so strong. Also they are incredibly smart and focused at the back. I think its time for something different. Although who knows anything can happen and I have so much faith in the overall team that I'm not worried unless Hutton finds his way into the lineup or Keane is on the left.

Re: Preview/Game Thread Bolton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur
Why would you want to bench Keane who just scored 4 goals? That is surely not going to do his confidence any good.

What is that on their badge? A strand of DNA?
Seriously, a win would be big. These are the games we historically have not won.

I think it looks like a sperm.

Re: Preview/Game Thread Bolton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur
Aside from the 4-3 win over them in the Carling Cup, we've never won at the Reebok Stadium have we?
It was built in 1997
