Default Brazil Serie B Handball goal video

Interesting clip (the handling, not the ensuing brawl). The player ducks his head as if he is heading the ball, but he is clearly doing so to deceive the referee team.

ESPN linked this from its site and, of course, was critical of the officials (who ended up awarding the goal)... not sure why the AR put her flag up, or if she did see the handling clearly, why the referee overruled her. I gotta say, this would be a tough one for the crew to catch.

The referee is looking through the back of the player, may see the arm come up, but from his view that may be a normal heading motion. The AR could have a better view, but there are two defenders and an attacker upright between her and the offense, thus she could easily have been screened.

With the diagonal system of control, I'm not sure you would necessarily catch this.

Need that extra AR - the the camera angle is the view from his position next to the goal.

It looks me like the AR was signaling for it, so I am not sure why she was overruled.

She was already moving up the line away from the corner flag just as the ball is kicked. Perhaps to get a better view, but her main resposiblity on a corner kick is the goal line, so she shouldn't be going anywhere. Look where she is when she is raising the flag. The corner flag is nowhere within ten feet. That may be one reason the CR overruled her. Good leason in AR mechanics.

I am not sure her mechanics are that far off.

Once you see the ball is in play, and doesn't curve out/in, you move to 2nd last defender. Both the keeper and defender are moving out and are a couple steps out when you last see the AR. She is at the very least, close to where she should be.

We next see her with the flag up, surrounded. We don't know why, but yes she is decently up the touch line, but there are several reasons:
- she thought it was a good goal and is raising the flag to get help with the crowd around her
- she popped the flag in the right spot but had to move to avoid the crowd coming at her

We don't know what happened, but I sure hope somebody saw that.
