Joseph Ngwenya training with the Red Bulls
According to Brian Lewis:
Quote:
Even though the Red Bulls have four more games left on their schedule, 2009 is essentially over _ and it’s never too early to start thinking about 2010. That’s why they have Joseph Ngwenya joined them today in camp, as they kick the tires on the 28-year-old Zimbabwean striker...
...Ngwenya is out of contract, but the Red Bulls still can’t register him until next season _ if that’s what both sides want, and a deal could be worked out for Houston for his rights. Yes, that’s a lot of ifs.
“I wouldn’t mind it. I think it would be nice for me. I like this city, my girlfriend lives here,’’ said Ngwenya, who is living with his significant other in Jersey City. “It’d be nice. There’s just a couple of games left in the season, but if the options comes up, great. If not.’’
|
The funny thing about this news is that I saw this guy at last Friday's game against the Revs. We we were walking out of the stadium and he was walking out also. I dismissed it as being a guy who looked exactly like him, because Ngwenya must be in whatever European league he plays in (I thought he was in Austria last).
Red Bull has Joseph Ngwenya in camp; evaluating for 2010

Re: Joseph Ngwenya training with the Red Bulls
No wonder there's still "fans" who are still coming to the game.....all along, it's actually people who are trying out for the team.
I'm no longer impressed when articles say " so-and-so was named to their National Team". Rojas is inept, Pacheco was below average and Boyens is a stiff and all of them are major players for their National Teams.

Re: Joseph Ngwenya training with the Red Bulls
I saw him after the game as well. He headed straight down the steps for the New England bench. Maybe he wanted to say hello to someone on the Revs bench, or perhaps he was trying to hand his resume to Nicol.
Ngwenya failed to close a deal for his return to Houston earlier this month (apparently he wanted more money than Houston was willing to pay).
Ngwenya fails to re-sign with Houston

He's a so-so journeyman mercenary of a soccer player. Pass.
Give Mbuta the PT instead.
Agoofs going to blow the draft picks now.

eh, i'd say that Boyens has had a small resurgence and has been one of our more consistent defenders during this Richie run home stretch. if you said this a few months earlier during the confed cup i'd agree whold heartedly.

I agree, Mbuta has been nothing but a spark off the bench, i'd love to see what he can do as a starter. even if we keep him on as a sub like what woly does when we have a healthy jpa and kandji, i think that's great. but if we could sign ngwenya for cheap i wouldn't mind, just don't over pay him.

I believe Houston just tried to do just that and failed.

Re: Joseph Ngwenya training with the Red Bulls
I think this will last as long as the season. I doubt he'll be here next year. The way I read it, he's keeping in shape by playing on our practice team. I'm sure he's trying to impress, but I doubt anyone watching right now will be in a position to sign him to a 2010 contract. That person has not been hired yet by Red Bull.
