No shame in that. It's almost a MLS tradition for new stadiums to not be completed by the start of the season. Heck, Kansas City and San Jose have been waiting for years.

Not entirely surprising if you've been following the construction closely. The stadium is going to be there for decades, not just opening week... so nothing to worry about.
OTOH, The one benefit of the Red Bulls falling so far behind schedule for 2009 was that it made me confident we'd be ready for opening day 2010.

Re: New stadium in Chester may not be finished in time for opener
Is the stadium really in danger of not being finished on time, or is this just a contingency plan? Seems like things are going fine, from the pictures posted in the Philly forum.
EDIT: After actually reading the linked article, it sure looks like any talk that it won't be ready is premature:

“Right now everything is running on schedule construction-wise, but we are on a real tight schedule and with MLS yet to announce opening day dates, we just want to make sure that we are covered,” Veit told the Daily News. “If we have to open on a certain date that doesn’t meet our deadlines then that is a problem, so we are just making sure we do our due diligence.”

Seems to me that next year will be a later start than this year.

I thought they say, they season might start early, I could be wrong. Well if the season starts a bit late, that's good news for the Unions stadium.

Goff is reporting that Union v United 4/10 @ The Linc will be Union's home opener but both teams will have played a couple games already.

Was the stadium scheduled to be finished after that? Not that having their first-ever game at the Linc is a bad idea, just to give more people the chance to be there.
