Default Predictions - 2006 Participants' Performance in SA

Wondering how people think that the various WC2006 participants will go this time around - whether they'll perform better, worse, or remain roughly the same (i.e. go out in the same round).

For teams who went out in the group stage, worse would be classified as not qualifying, with better being making it to the R16.

Italy (Winner)

France (Runner Up)

Germany (3rd)

Portugal (4th)

Brazil, Argentina, England, Ukraine (QF)

Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, Ecuador, Ghana, Sweden, Mexico, Australia (R16)

Korea, Paraguay, Cote d'Ivoire, Czech Republic, Poland, Croatia, Angola, Tunisia, Iran, United States, Trinidad & Tobago, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Togo, Costa Rica, Serbia & Montenegro (Group)

Obviously teams from last time who have already missed out or look like missing out on qualifying have already done worse.

Worse:
Italy, France, Portugal, Ukraine, Germany, Sweden, Australia, Iran, Angola, Tunisia, Czech Republic, T&T, Saudi Arabia, Togo, Ecuador

Better:
Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Netherlands, USA, Cote d'Ivoire, Korea, Serbia

Maintained:
England, Mexico, Croatia, Poland, Japan, Ghana, Paraguay

How can Ukraine or Croatia be deemed to have done better or worse? They're fighting for the play-off spot IN THE SAME QUALIFICATION GROUP. Croatia have 3 points more but Ukraine have a game in hand. For practical purposes their positions are indistinguishable.

Read the thread. It's a prediction as to how the teams are going to do compared to their performance in 2006.

I think I got you. If Croatia, for example, reaches WC 2nd round, they will have already done better. While if Ukraine did the same they would have done worse.

No worries. Carry on.

Ivory Coast will make it to at least the semis I think. Brazil and Spain will do better.

Italy and France will do much worse.

Worse: Italy (round of 16 or maybe qf this time), France (not out of groups), Portugal (not in tournament), Ukraine (not in tournament), Switzerland (not out of group), Ecuador (not in tournametn), Ghana (not out of group), Sweden (not out of group or not in tournament), Australia (not out of group)

Better: Brazil (sf or finals, potential winner), England (sf), Spain (finals, potential winner), Netherlands (qf or sf),

Same: Germany (sf, or maybe qf), Argentina (qf, potential for sf), Mexico (r16 and out)

I only included those from the knock-out rounds of last tournament.
