Default Baltimore Viewing US-Mex 8/12

I wanted to gauge the interest in watching this match at Abbey Burger Bistro in Fed Hill instead of Slainte. First let me commend the momentum that is building with a Baltimore Brigade; and if those that have been coordinating and going to Slainte think that momentum would slow by changing venues then by all means ignore the following plea.

I like Slainte… I have spent many mornings over the past five-six years watching Arsenal there, but a growing number of us Arsenal fans have found a much better home at Abbey Bistro. The biggest key for me is the TVs. Slainte’s, except for the ones over the bars, have glorified computer monitors for tvs; and when it gets crowded, the sightlines for the big tvs are pretty poor. Slainte’s tvs are pretty low end, old, and are not HD ready, and never get shown in native format; so especially with poor signals like ESPN classic and mu2-- it is enough to keep me at home.

Abbey Bistro has two floors, both with very open spaces and both floors have several 50+ Samsung HD tvs with many other smaller 40 inchers of the same brand. They are sweet tvs that use native format so even poor signals like goltv look pretty good; and you will be damn happy whenever a match gets shown in HD. The beers selection is very diverse and the burgers are of course great. The owner and the bartenders have been very accommodating to us, opening for early matches etc., and they always enjoy an enthusiastic footy crowd.

So if anyone is interested please join me and some of the Charm City Gooners next week. If not, hope to see you in DC in October.

I'd be there but I am going to be in OC watching the game....somewhere.
Any suggestions? Otherwise I may end up in a tequila bar with the opposition.

Ouch, that is not right. Hopefully someone provides a hookup here. I am no OC expert but the Green Turtle might just be red white and blue enough.

I haven't been to Abbey Bistro, but I've avoided Federal Hill like the plague since I moved out in 2000.

I wish there was a way I could combine my local (Brewer's Art) with a good sports bar setup but make it retractable so the TVs are only available for matches I want to watch.

Come on Volker!

p.s. I'll be at Slainte

Have fun at Slainte. But Abbey Bistro is not like other Cross Street bars; the games take precedent here. I think I am pretty safe in saying it is also more like Brewer's Art than Slainte; especially given the large micro brew selection and better food. Anyway, not starting trouble, just trying to convert another fan to be there with me. Have fun.

That's cool. Enjoy! I'll probably get stuck with one of the tiny monitors.

Good turnout, tough result; but all in all a nice atmosphere at Abbey Bistro today. Not a full fledged BigSoccer crowd-- but I am pleased to see the number of new fans showing up. I will see y'all on Saturday for a fresh plate of EPL action.

Arrow Viewing Parties: Baltimore, MD

Saturday 8:00pm EST
Baltimore, Maryland
Slainte Irish Pub
Near the corner of Broadway and Thames

The rowdy boys of the Baltimore Brigade will be bringing the party again this Saturday at 8:00pm EST to watch the US start to seal it's bid to the World Cup.

Once again we're gathering at Slainte, which is our official bar and sponsor! If it's been awhile since you last joined us, I recommend you get there early if you want a seat; The last three events have filled up nicely, and this should be one of the bigger viewings, as it's on a Saturday. Wear your USA gear, and bring your singing voice. Three points or bust!

Is there a get together for Wednesday's away to T&T?

I was in Salt Lake for the match Saturday but am back in B-more for the week and looking for a place to watch - assume this will be it.
