Ranieri: Tactics & Formation
We might as well start speculating on what our new coach will bring to the table. I think we can say safely that the 4-2-3-1 will be put to rest, and thank god for that. Will he be able to move Totti back away from the goal? I doubt that very much, Totti does what he likes. It's no coincidence that Spalletti quit two days after going off on Totti in the post match press conference.
We really made a meal of things, this should have happened in June and not now. Ranieri will not be able to get any players to suit his tactics until January.
Anyhow what can we expect from Ranieri tactically? Clearly a more traditional football, a more defensive minded football. What about a formation? A traditional 4-4-2? 4-3-1-2? What do you guys think.

Re: Ranieri: Tactics & Formation
Now that it's official we can discuss formations and tactics. It's said Ranieri likes a good 4-4-2.
Arthur
Motta - Mexes - Juan - Riise
De Rossi - Brighi
Taddei - - - - - Guberti
Totti - Vucinic
The midfield need to be redesigned, I think any coach with a good mind on him is aware of that. Partnering Brighi with De Rossi would possibly releave pressure on our defense, having two warriors next to each other.
Menez, unfortunately I think we can forget him. This is the coach that kept Giovinco on the bench. I believe that Menez' negative qualities will weigh heavily with the new mister. The same goes for Pizaro, who on a bad day loses a lot of possession.
The wild card remains Baptista, a player a ton of teams have struggled to integrate, but one of our only options in attack. Will Ranieri find a permanent place for him?

Re: Ranieri: Tactics & Formation
I think Julio will be sacrificed as well. I'm not sure if it's wise to split Daniele and Pizarro up. Bc then we have no creativiey at all and the two have been together for awhile. I'm hoping this new era comes the end of Taddei. He's done. Maybe Ranieri will incorporate Brighi and drop Taddei somehow. Wouldn't be hilrious if he went with a 4-2-3-1 against Siena lol
Throughing this out there....has Rnaieri every played a 4-3-3??? Maybe drop Totti to a trequartista role behind Julio and Mirko.

I don't think he's moving Totti anywhere. He tries to move Totti and his time on our bench will be limited.
Pizarro only excellend in the 4-2-3-1, the few times Spalletti messed with a normal 4-4-2 Pizarro was awful. I really expect him to be sacrificed. Perrotta could also find new life next to De Rossi.

Totti wants to reach 200 goals...so ya, he won't move.
Perrotta can excell from playing a defensive game, but i see him similar to Brighi, but with lead feet. Perrotta can be a sub player.
Use a 4-4-2 formation, but have Daniele hang back. Similar to Cambiasso at Inter last year. I would have DDR behind Taddei, Pizarro and Brighi, folowed by Mirko and Totti up front.
One good thing is that Ranieri has a good week to train with the players and adapt any new formations/tatics.

haha...i don't want to rely on Perrotta to provide quality balls for Totti...Perrotta did very well in a similar role a few years ago, but he's not that same player anymore. Perrotta has lost his place to Brighi...unless he can earn a spot back, he's a designated sub player.
