I dont really understand what this means. The guy was born, raised, and played in Brazil. How exactly is he a "wannabe". Americans, and the world over for that matter, have this perception that just because you're Brazilian, then you are automatically the best guy on any team (given there are no other Brazilians). The guy is a soccer player. The fact that he is from Brazil means nothing to his skill.
But I ask too, is he even good?

Means he's been playing in a country where soccer isn't considered a ********** sport and is coached by people that really know the game. That's why it carries a conotation.

Re: The Official Fabio Da Silva Thread
His recent pedigree doesn't sound too impressive. But according to Carlisle on CLS, he looks pretty good and has spent some time at Red Star Belgrade. Don't know how he did there, but it's a good club. He'd have to have some talent to make the team there.

He just showed up and we're ready to sign him after one day? And trade Ryan to make room for him? (or someone else?)

I really hope that he turns out to be great. But I expect this is another signing in the mold of Weaver, Campos, and Ribeiro. That is, we have signed a player from a much lower division in the mistaken belief that he is good enough to start in MLS. This looks to me like desperation. As though JD and Frank are making moves in order to convince upper management that they are doing something and therefore deserve another chance. Jeff's article on the Quakes site says that Frank is going to get another shot next year. Which to me means that when we sack Frank mid season next year we will be in for at least another season and a half of rebuilding. Perhaps Shea will have grown into a starting quality player by then, maybe Q too.
I again, I'd love to see Fabio turn out great. I hope this guy is the second coming of Danny Califf. I'll take my crow vegetarian and well spiced please.
Still, I fear that I am correct and we'll all be calling for half the roster to be sacked in the off season.
go quakes
failure is cool

OK, and couldn't wait until tomorrow? Fabio had been with our club a few hours and we traded one of our existing guys?
Maybe Cochrane's relationship with Frank or JD had gone south? Maybe Ryan was sick of San José? Maybe this Fabio guy is really great and was just slumming in a third division team for a while to keep in shape?
Just seems odd don't you think?
go quakes!

Re: The Official Fabio Da Silva Thread
or maybe Cochrane was more of a liability at the back than Garcia was and it was fantastic business to get an internation slot for him...

No, I don't think it's odd. A bit unexpected in that I thought they had a blind spot toward this player and could have just hung on to maybe he'll be better wehn not injured. But I don't it requires anything being "wrong" between the player and the organization or the coach. I think it was Julius James leaving for DC, Houston needing a player, us needing cap room--nothing more comples.
For sure I don't think there's any difference between signing a player on a Friday vs waiting till Saturday would make any difference to making it not seem quick. That might come down to having Saturday for the medical before the league put pen to paper anyway.
It seems to be nothing more than it all came together in time.
