Default Rugby makes the final 2 in IOC Consideration for 2016 Games

http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/news/story?id=4396021

Looks like rugby made it through pretty easily to this 'final round' of consideration. Golf struggled a bit but I'm not sure if it has to be one or the other. Also, if it will be accepted, it will be Rugby Sevens, not league or union. Im happy for the game as the IRB has made a pretty serious push to get back in the Olympics over the last few years. Keeping my fingers crossed

Do they choose just one, like one or the other? Or can they choose both? Thanks.

They can choose both. Each will be voted on separately.

Whatever we can do to help the sport the better.

The IRB has agreed to scrap the (complete waste of everyones time known as the ) sevens World Cup and have the Olympics as the true 'world championship' held every 4 years.

Thing is..the olympics needs some new sports. Nobody but nobody, and I truly, honestly, genuinely, seriously mean NOBODY watches the discus or the luge or the race-walking or the javelin or the rowing except at the Olympics every 4 years. Really, nobody is gonna pay good money to watch 8 guys sit on their a55 and go backwards (ie- rowing) for 2 miles except in the Olympics and the Oxford v Cambridge drunk fest.

The olympics need to embrace real, modern sports. The 7's is a great start.

I personally believe that if an Olympic Gold isnt the highest honor you can get in a particular sport then it should not be in the Olympics

so Soccer, Tennis all out the window

no need for Golf

I am on the fence on Rugby 7s, I mean might as well have beach soccer and Futsal aswell

theres to many sports and they should be getting rid of some instead of adding more

I concur. I would like hockey and basketball to bow out and strengthen their own international tournaments, too.

Definitely agree, especially the bolded part.

Regarding futsal, it would probably make a decent replacement for football at the Olympics. Would definitely lift the profile of the sport.

Rugby Sevens is Union. The IRB is the governing body for rugby union out of Dublin. I am really happy about this as well and what it will due for rugby in the USA in the long run. 7s is most likely a better fit for the olympics than 15s due to time constrains.
