Brainstorm II: Improving the Quality of the Discussion
An old friend asks:
What are you doing to improve the quality of discussion on this board? Or are we capitulating to an overwhelming lack of quality discussion?
So...
Is their a quality problem
and
What would you suggest we do to improve the quality of discussion

Re: Brainstorm II: Improving the Quality of the Discussion
Ban any post complaining about "neg rep".
Ban posts about this not being the correct thread and instruct people to inform the moderators if they feel something is off topic.
Try and keep the number of threads down, so topics don't get lost, it's frustrating putting in a good post and a half decent conversation started, only for it to get relegated to the 2nd page of a forum and pretty much lost forever once it's off the first page.
I guess most of the work falls on the moderators shoulders really.

Re: Brainstorm II: Improving the Quality of the Discussion
When someone comes up with a cock-eyed theory, is proven wrong with facts, yet fails to admit they were wrong and continues to post about how smart they are, either ban their ass or have a mod step in and point out how assinine they are.
Reality needs to be defended here. People who succumb to emotion intead of fact need to be taken to the woodshed in the news and analysis threads. Just because you yell and say something over and over again doesn't make it right.

Agreed.
Also - there needs to be more ways for the better posters to interact.
Everyone is too locked up in their little fan scrums.
For instance, for a major champions league match - you'll get that game discussed by groups of posters in at least 4 or 5 forums (i.e Off Topic) - and thus no quality discussion of it anywhere outside of the forums of the two teams playing, even though loads of neutrals are watching that match.

Good lord would that clear up the boards.
Perhaps we should create BigSoccer Death Panels.

Quality is a matter of perspective on a message board. Who is to say what is or isn't quality?
I don't think there is much to be done, especially with the WC coming up next year and WCQ's winding down this year. If a poster is out of line or a problem that is what the report post feature is for.
