If The Crew put up bronze sculptures of Crew greats around the stadium who would deserve one?
Just something that I thought would be fun. How many of us have gone to stadiums in other sports and seen statues of that teams former greats imortalized in bronze like Gordie Howe in Detroit, Magic Johnson in La ect ect? If the Crew did this who would they imortalize in bronze? Here's my list and I'm sure it's not a very good one but here we go
1.Guillermo Barros Schelloto
2 Brian Mcbride
3 Brad Friedal
4 Frankie Hejduk
5 Sigi Schmidt
6 Robert Warzycha
7 Lamar Hunt
8 Jeff Cunningham
9 Stern John
10 Chad Marshall
Well theirs my list let the debate begin

Re: If The Crew put up bronze sculptures of Crew greats around the stadium who would deserve one?
Guillermo Barros Schelloto
Brad Friedel
Frankie Hejduk
Brian Maisonneuve
Lamar Hunt
I can rank those are in no particular order, as they are all Legends of the Crew.
For the 6th statue: "The Twelfth Man" - a statue of a supporter holding his scarf and chanting.
And only after he retires...Brian McBride.
No Sigi. If he wanted a statue, he could have stayed. He chose not to and it wasn't the most graceful exit. And no, I don't hold McBride to the same "could have stayed" standard. He left for bigger opportunities abroad, as he should have. He did come back to the F*re, but there were personal issues there and it's not like he went directly there.
In my mind, statues must be reserved for individuals that were not only outstanding, but were loyal to the club and contributed for a number of years. For example, Stern John, Robin Fraser, Thomas Dooley and Sigi were all we with the club less than three years. Of course, this standard could never apply to Guille, who could announce his retirement tomorrow and still deserve to have the stadium named after him, because of what he has done for the club in his time.
Great idea Kevin, both for a thread and also it would be great is something like this came to fruition.
It's also interesting to look at the current Crew roster and think that at least six guys could potentially be in this group in the future. We are really in a golden age.

Lamar Hunt for 3 reasons:
1) There would be no Crew in Columbus without Him.
2) There would be no First Soccer Specific Stadium without Him.
3) His Family has enough money to Buy one.

Brad Friedel is the Greatest American Futbol player that has ever lived.

Re: If The Crew put up bronze sculptures of Crew greats around the stadium who would deserve one?
None of the above. Lamar was too modest to want a statue so Clark won't put one up. Friedel and John are probably the best players to wear a Crew jersey but they didn't play here long enough. Guille got us to our only championship but he is a Boca man. It should be someone who plays most of their career with the Crew, is an outstanding player on the field, and an exemplary person off the pitch. It should also be someone who helps the team achieve a high level of success. McBride misses the last standard.
In other cities, they put up statues for guys who led teams to lots of titles. We only have 1 MLS cup so far.

Besides the obvious (Lamar) I wouldn't mind one for Fitz. Sure he never got us a title, but he is our longest tenured coach and did some good things while he was here.
