Default Player Ratings: 8/1 versus Colorado

Thanks to everyone who participated last week (doing so again this weekend is strongly encouraged.) The sooner the ratings get in, the fresher the game will be in your mind and the sooner the Crewture article gets up. The goal for this week is 10 people.

Hesmer 9-MOTM Did very little wrong, made some huge stops. Kicking was a little questionable and he had a touch or two that was a little nervy, but he got a well-deserved clean sheet.
Zayner 7.5-Shaky at the start, but had a good game overall. Didn't add much to the O besides one good cross, but if Colin Clark is good enough to be a Nat and Zayner can shut him down, then that says Zayner has some quality
Brunner 7-Had a good game, did well in the air. Made a few mistakes, some that Chad had to clean up, others that he dealt with himself.
Marshall 8-Got the goal and played a good defensive game. Had some defensive miscues, but a solid game overall.
Padula 6-Made some nice stops, kept Labrocca in check, but got owned a handful of times one-on-one.
Carroll 5-Gave the ball away several times, only had one noteworthy tackle. Invisible for the most part.
O'Rourke 6-Also mostly invisible, but had some really nice tackles and didn't turn the ball over nearly as much as Carroll.
Gaven 4-I forgot he was playing for a long stretch. Turned the ball over, didn't add anything to the attack, but had maybe one or two good defensive plays.
Rogers 4- Helped spearhead the Inivisble Man movement. Had some awful services, made lots of negative passes, didn't do much on defense, and looked tired. I think his "shot" was supposed to be a cross.
Garey 5-Made a threatening run or two, set up the goal by getting fouled. Didn't really have much impact, but didn't screw very much up.
Lenhart 4-Had some nice flicks, but that was his only value tonight. He turned the ball over several times, displayed his poor touch, and just couldn't get anything going.

SUBS:
Ekpo 5.5-Killed some time, did some dribbling.
Moreno 6-Nice shot, looked a little more threatening in his limited minutes than Lenhart or Garey
Moffat-Not enough time.

Hesmer--8 Not much to quibble with as he was everywhere he needed to be. Not enough variety in distribution that set the tone for the first 50' where the Crew just seemed content to kick the ball up the field.

Zayner--6 bad start, got into form as the game went on. Poor distribution and didn't make the offesive runs the team expects out of the position.

Marshall--9 Only one bad play with Cummings, but still managed to get a boot in there to disrupt his flow. GWG powerful.

Brunner--6.5 Good most of the game had some scary moments, especially at the end.

Padula--5 Worst defender on the night. Just kept getting beat on speed. Can and does play a lot smarter. Poor distribution.

Carroll--3 I think that's kind of generous. Passing horrible, didn't win much.

O'Rourke--6 His passing is getting better and he was everywhere tonight. Easily the best midfielder on the night.

Gaven--2.5 reluctant to push forward, poor, slow decisions, all night.

Rogers--3 shouldn't have been on the field if he was sick. Wonder if he wasn't accostumed to playing with O'Rourke/Carroll pairing. Still reluctant to turn and take defenders on. One good cross and the rest in outer space.

Garey--2.5 Didn't get service, so rating not all his fault. Didn't win many balls and when he did made bad decisons with it.

Lenhart--2 Worst player on the field for the team. Just didn't have it tonight. How many passes did he have that went to absolutly no one or to a Colorado player?

Subs
Ekpo--5 marked improvement over what Rogers brought on the left. Helped turn the team around from the long ball to where they were actually knocking the ball around keeping possession.

Moreno--7 A man possessed.

Moffat--Not enough time.

Warzchya--6 I question his decision to put Rogers out there when he was sick, we have options. Team didn't come out with the right mindset, way too many long passes and not enough possession. Good subs at the right time that kind of changed that for the last 30'.

I wonder what you guys will do when we actually have a decent game. Are you giving out 12, 13 and 14 ratings then? I'm with Myshap here.

Hesmer - 7: had to make one good save and made it, strong in the air, weak with the feet. I counted 12 or 13 kicks lost in a row until the one where Lenhart got fouled and Chad converted.

Zayner - 6: pretty solid on the right side, got beaten once, moved up in the attack a bit but with route 1 ball played last night didn't have much of a chance to contribute. Broke up a couple of good chances by the Rapids by stepping in front of the shooter.

Brunner - 7: solid in the air, nothing that I can think off where I would wonder what the hell was he doing.

Marshall - 8: MOTM for me. Had one bad play where he got shouldered off the ball by Cummings and still ended up giving him a high bouncer that he couldn't convert. Solid FK goal and close on a header later on.

Padula - 3: got beaten like a drum all night long by Cummings and Ihemelu. Opened the door consistently to the Rapids attack putting the rest of the team in peril.

O'Rourke - 6: consistent and efficient. No attack last night so he was solid defensively holding back wave after wave.

Carroll - 4: didn't contribute much except for giving the ball back to the Rapids too quickly. Only Hesmer completed more passes to the Rapids last night.

Rogers - 3: if you're too sick, then sit down. He pretty much contributed nothing on the attack except for a two-foot roller to Chad. He had nothing to contribute defensively on Padula's side.

Gaven - 5: with no contribution from Rogers the Rapids pressured Gaven's side, closed it down and forced us to go Route 1 most of the first 60 minutes. Still contributed defensively and helped out Zayner blocking a cross the one time Zayner was truly beaten by Clarke.

Garey - 3: when on your first play you dribble the ball over the touchline and on the second good chance you head the ball five feet over the goal, we know it's not going to be your night. The style of play didn't help and he was pretty much out of the match all night long.

Lenhart - 4: won one or two balls in the air and got fouled on the key play of the game. Lousy touch on the only great pass we made last night killed the chance to put the match away early. The Bash Brothers became the Mash Brothers last night!

Ekpo - 7: immediately gave us a well balanced attack by forcing the Rapids to defend his side. Good ball possession when we needed it.

Moreno - 7: a huge improvement up front. Won some balls, held up the ball for some attacking play and had a great shot saved by Pickens.

Moffatt - 5: not much time to contribute much.

Warzycha - 5: style of play, if planned, was horrible. Maybe he expected the Rapids pressure to come down as time marched on but you can't contribute to it by having your keeper punt the ball away EVERY time. Gets points for some great and timely subs.

I don't think mine were too different from yours. That's sort of the idea behind averaging them, too, getting a broader idea of the perception of their play rather than one person's opinion.

It's interesting seeing how different people do their ratings. If you go to Europe, you'll find it very rare for any player in England to get anything lower than a 4 rating. From what I've seen in France, it's rare for anyone to higher than a 7, and they tend to be a lot harder on players.

Personally, I always assume I'm missing something positioning wise because as a spectator, my eye is drawn to where the ball is more often to where someone is off the ball (unless it's an attacking run in the box.) With defensive players especially, it can be tough figuring out if their marking a specific man, who that is, how consistently they're supposed to be doing it, and after all that, if they're doing a good job.

I agree but rate the whole team people, takes a minute.

Make it easy on JB so he doesn't have to give the ratings results on Friday, lol.
