Are we fortunate to always have world class keepers?
Looking back the last 15 years, our starting keepers have been Brad Friedel, Kasey Keller, and now, Tim Howard. Arguably, some of our keepers in their prime were top 10 keepers in the world, and IMO, the way Tim Howard is playing, he is definitely a top 5 goaltender in the world right now.
Brazil will always produce world class strikers, Italy will always produce world class defenders, but the US has been producing world class goal keepers in the last 15 years.

Yes. I think in a 'non soccer' country hand eye coordination/ athletic ability are skills that translate well from the usual American sports to soccer. The US should always be able to produce top keepers, if not than its a bad sign.

Re: Are we fortunate to always have world class keepers?
we are very fortunate, but that is not to say we are lucky
it is indeed all of the other sports americans play as children that give us the hand/eye coordination, anticipation, and athleticism needed to be a world class keeper

tolucafan is right. Howard is good, but not top 5. Once again, usmnt fans overrate their players

Re: Are we fortunate to always have world class keepers?
I would say he is in contention for it.
Van der Sar
Casillas
Buffon
Cech
Howard?
Adler?
Given?
Cesar?
I think he could grab the fifth spot.

I agree. He's better than Cech (who is by far the most overrated goalie in the world).
