Another improved option for AFL coverage -- international audience, take note
There's another alternative for AFL live match coverage that has emerged -- and I actually found this earlier today, at halftime of the Geelong v Melbourne match, not so much by accident but rather by total chance.
Link from justin.tv
The person who runs this channel on the justin.tv site -- which, for the uninitiated, is one of the various sites out in cyberspace that specializes in live streaming video -- is by all accounts a Tasmanian resident who has vowed to show every free-to-air broadcast originating from Seven or Ten for the remainder of the season. And to do so live.
If this is on the level, then all of our regulars who take part in the weekly AFL threads win here: - The U.S.-based audience gets four games per week, two more than what Setanta Sport USA is currently offering.
- Live cover for the U.K. audience four times a week, especially in the wake of Setanta's demise over there.
- And for the Aussies here, especially those in Victoria, no more waiting around for the tape-delayed broadcasts that Seven and Ten insist upon.
I think that our coverage options just got a whole lot better. It might not be all eight games, but at least it's more than we've been able to report to our overseas audience to date, and the video quality is absolutely crystal-clear.

Well spotted.
There have been some complaints from the UK fans about the Telstra Big Pond live streaming - Some cannot get it to work now whereas previously it did.

Viewers from the UK, or even from the U.S., won't have any complaints about these streams. Easy to use, and as clear as the Pacific Ocean in Torquay. The video quality is so good, you'd swear you're watching it on your own TV.
I think our regulars here will be very impressed.

Right on. A good compliment to footy-net on Ustream, which is quite obviously a Freo fan.

Re: Another improved option for AFL coverage -- international audience, take note
The AFL media dept has finally woken up that they cannot control the Internet media.
As we have been saying now for a while they do not know the modern ways.
It looks like Justin TV and others are being closed down BT.

We found this article AFTER we had posted above.
Guess what??- the author is saying what we have said for ages about the lack of internet savvy at the AFL.
IPTV?? What is that the AFL is saying.

This thread on Sister site Bigfooty has some interesting comments about the AFL v Justin TV situation. Like the comments about the NFL live streaming for payment to non American fans.

A commonsense article on the live illegal streaming of AFL matches. It seems they cannot stop it. The fans are demanding Live cover now.

I can confirm that. "Content removed at the request of the copyright holder," is what is said on Manian's site.
Absolute killjoys, those at AFL House. And if anyone read the article westcoast929406 linked from the Herald Sun and any of the related articles, and especially the reader comments from each, you get the impression that the AFL is completely out of touch with its fans, and those who rely on these live streaming webcasts don't live within reasonable driving distance of the MCG, living in country or regional centers or even internationally are the ones who have relied on them the most.

Re: Another improved option for AFL coverage -- international audience, take note
We spotted this post on another site. It covers everything discussed here and elsewhere. It is a very impassioned plea from a die hard fan.
Gentlemen start lobbying the AFL hard for next season. Get yourself organised.
The shutdown of Justin TV could be the catalyst for change.
