Default Desperate Times Require Desperate Measures

July 11, 2009 - San Jose Earthquakes vs Toronto FC
Former San Jose Earthquake Nick Garcia and the rest of the Toronto FC visited Buckshaw Stadium for the first time and came away victorious over the Quakes. The Quakes were desperate for a win to bring them closer to a playoff spot but with this lifeless attempt towards victory came up on the losing end of a 3-1 showing. The locker room was dismal as the whole stadium felt the season slipping away from every seat in the stands to every staff member and team member of the Quakes.

For great articles on the game visit our friends at Center Line Soccer and read Jay Hipps interpretation of the game and the dreary atmosphere in the Quakes locker room.

We will bring you highlights of the game along with reactions from Goal Keeper Joe Cannon and late substitute Cornel Glenn on what the team needs to do to turn the ship around. Coach Frank Yallop looked dazed and confused asking for help for his lifeless team heads down river for the end of the second season for the expansion team. Shown exclusively on the Local Soccer Scene TV show on Comcast CH 15 in San Jose, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Cupertino, Los Altos, and Mountain View.

“What we’ve got to do is make sure that no matter what happens in game, we don’t crumble, and I think that we crumbled,” Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop told the Local Soccer Scene “It was a poor performance by us. We didn’t deserve anything tonight,”

"I'm not going to pinpoint them now," Yallop said, "but we do need help and we're trying to address that now, as we speak. (General manager) John (Doyle) is speaking with a few clubs and players, and so we'll make some changes, we'll get some players, and hopefully that will help us. We also need to get some guys healthy. We missed Ramiro (Corrales') leadership tonight, but again, I don't think that one player would have made the difference."

Needing help is an understatement as the cellar dwellers couldn't be any further from the top in last nights performance.
“As a guy who’s been in the league a long time, that was just gross,” said Joe Cannon. “It’s embarrassing at the end.”

Local Soccer Scene is quite disappointed not only in the performance of the team but the overall presentation of what has been the showcase of soccer in the San Jose bay area. A breath of fresh air will be coming through the San Jose area in the way of International Matches between Inter Milan, Club America, FC Barcelona and CD Chivas of Mexico. Top it all off with a Blast from the past as the Quakes of the OLD NASL come back to the San Jose Bay Area for a Reunion. Local Soccer Scene hopes they bring the excitement of what it was like to be a San Jose Earthquake player, and fan. More to follow.
