I thought everyone should know that the situation with Marcia Williams, wife of Andy Williams, has taken a turn for the worse. For those of you who dont know the background, Marcia has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. For months she had been looking for a donor and finally found someone in Spain who was a partial match. Doctors performed the bone marrow transplant on June 12 and things were going well. She has been going through chemotherapy as part of her treatment. Today there was news posted on her myspace page indicating she is in a very serious condition right now:

Last night Marcia was rushed to Intensive Care, after a severe coughing attack resulted in heavy bleeding in the lungs. The doctors believe this is an infection as a result of the chemo. She his currently sedated and hooked up to a ventilator and breathing tube. She is a lot more comfortable now, than the past few days have been with her severe cough. So she is resting gently and looks calm. But this infection is serious, and we will know more in the next few days after we see how it responds to the treatment. Never underestimate the power of prayer, Marcia needs u all more than ever. Keep u all posted as often as possible, Andy is flying in today, as the doctors seem to think the seriousness of the situation warrants him coming. Take Care.

For those of you without a medical background, in simple terms this is an EXTREMELY delicate stage she is in right now. Because she has been undergoing chemotherapy her immune system is all but eliminated. She is reliant upon doctors to diagnose the type of infection she has and it has to be quick. A lung infection with a weakened immune system is very dangerous. Infections of this type usually indicate a viral source which can spread through various means throughout the body. The doctors need to determine the type of infection and treat with antivirals and or antibiotics. If the infection spreads to the lymph nodes and subsequently the blood stream there is a high risk of fatality (due to sepsis).

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep Marcia, Andy and the rest of the Williams family in your hearts and minds. Tonight RSL played Club America in a friendly, Clint Mathis donned the 77 jersey to support Andy and the teams gathered in a circle for a moment of silence prior to the match:

My wife and I just finished reading this post together. We are so saddened to hear about the Williams family's struggles.
