Re: so what's our player pool for the rest of the qualifiers?
The above entry does not present enough expiramenting.
demerit starting every game?
Carlos could easily get shifted to CB by his Club team.
I would like to see spector play left back at least once. Also Heyduk needs to play some.
At this point Adu is an after thought. lets see where he is at Christmas.
I really think Danny S will get a call.
Finally regarding Castillo and Jones.
I would not have a problem calling in Castillo After the Azteca game.
However Jones needs to wait until we have virtually qualified.
If i was coaching in Azteca:
Timmy
Dolo Gooch Boca Spector
Duece MikeB Benny LD
Jozy Chili

Which means, that Adu will not be called in until we clinch the berth.
Don't know why you say this about Jones and Castillo, although I think it will be moot, because your lineup is a solution, with the exception of Feilhaber (who cannot be relied upon at Dmid vs Mexico's A team). In his place will be Ricardo Clark, no doubt. Mastro in reserve. Jones will not be healed. Castillo is not an upgrade at LB when you have Spector to play there.

Your right.
Adu is so far off the radar right now it's not even funny. He may see some time after clinching a WC berth. He may in fact make the WC squad, however I doubt he will see the field much, if at all. He must have a breakout season in Europe to get any consideration.
Like most of you, I think we will see the Spain lineup for the rest of the qualifiers that matter. I also believe that the Spain lineup will be our starting 11 for SA as well. (Maybe Jones supplants Ricardo)
The only thing up for grabs at this point are sub and reserve spots.

Re: so what's our player pool for the rest of the qualifiers?
I think we can break it down into 3 categories: The Core, the Fringe, and the Outside.
The Core: If healthy, these players will certainly be called in if the game is a big one.
13 players. If healthy, and we need them, they'll be there.
GK: Howard, Guzan
D: Bocanegra, Onyewu, Cherundolo, DeMerit, Spector
M: Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley, Feilhaber, Jones
F: Altidore, Davies, Ching
The Fringe: These guys will fight to round out the WCQ rosters, and the 2010 roster.
Many will appear and make the final roster, some won't. Health, roster makeup (# of D, M, etc), and form over the next year will say a lot.
GK: Perkins, Hahnemann + (Keller and Friedel if they want to).
D: Hejduk, Bornstein, Pearce, Califf, Marshall, Conrad
M: Clark, Edu, Torres, Beasley, Kljestan, Holden, Rogers, Adu, Mastroeni
F: Adu, Cooper (McBride if he changes his mind).
The Outside: These guys have an outside shot, but really need to shine or get some breaks.
GK: Busch, Robles, Pickens
D: Wynne, Simek, Goodson, Parkhurst, Whitbread, Cameron, Boswell, Orozco, Castillo, Franklin, Lichaj, Vidal.
M: Quaranta, Beckerman, Szetela, White, J. Johnson, Gaven, Pause, Carroll
F: E. Johnson, Tracy, Findley, Wolff, Buddle
Yes, we could take it out a bit more, but I think this is it. And it's close to just the guys on the fringe.

Re: so what's our player pool for the rest of the qualifiers?
I'd approach it game by game.
e.g....we win in Azteca...that changes everything. We can clinch a berth in September.
That allows the october games to be more experimental.
